Slow PC performance

My computer performance is running slow, I have an active anti-virus and my HD memory isn't even halfed yet, what can I do to fix it?

What do u mean by slow? what are the specs of the system? what are the software's you are running on it? what kind of antivirus are u using?

I mean slow in opening apps and even when it is already opened.
My PC is Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU
2.20 GHz
2.00 GB of RAM
32 bit
Productivity softwares (MS Word etc.) and I also use it in browsing the internet.
It's like a units used in offices.
I use Avast sir.
 
First do a defragmentation of your hard disk partitions. if the situation does not improve, upgrade your RAM to 4GB. If still not satisfactory, Replace the existing HDD with SSD
 
Which OS are you using on that system? And is this your Office PC or Home PC?

Providing more details would be helpful and the issues can resolved quickly.

First see if there are any tasks running in the background. Open Task Manager and see the CPU usage and process details, check which application is consuming too much CPU and memory.

You need to see if any scheduled maintenance task is running in the background. You can disable those if it is not needed.

Scan your HDD for errors and bad sectors.

Try these things first and see if it helps. Tell us your findings after you perform these tasks.
