SLR Dilemma...

ok I am down to Lumix FZ35/38 as of now, but I wanted an entry level DSLR, with a budget constraint of 25K... dont want to go for D40 or 1000D.. so i am left with Sony Alpha A230 (pls suggest any other in same range)..
So anyone advise as to how Sony stands as a DSLR compared to say a 1000D and is it worth spending the extra money over Lumix.

PS: I hav no intentions to buy exrtra lenses.

Then why are u buying a DSLR? I fthere is no extra lens in the next 2yr horizon then its better u buy a DSLR like mega zoon cam like the sony H50 or Nikon P series

Also the sony DSLRs are quite good but the usual sony quirks are there as in mem card have to be sony format etc.

well in 25k budget u can get eos 1000d i.e if u buy in the grey market.
the new sony alpha 230 does have have a additional SD card slot alone with the memory stick.its grip is much better.
eos 1000d does have a better high iso performance.

The A230 is not yet released in India IMHO. Digital SLR Camera : Digital SLR : Sony India

Also as others have pointed out, just sticking to the kit lens is not a very good idea. At least get a 55-200mm type lens along with a 50mm f1.8 lens and then you should be fine for most opportunities. You dont have to buy them all at once. You can get the body and kit lens first and add the other lenses later.

27.5k should get you the 1000D + the kit lens, a UV filter, 2GB SD card and a carry bag from JJ Mehta, Mumbai. Quite a decent deal.

As in ever? What is a point having a DSLR without lenses, better stick to Lumix FZ35/28 or check the Nikon P series cam.

i suggest that you buy an slr with one lens. once you start shooting, you might want to add some lenses later. i personally use a nikon, but you can go for any brand you like.
