hello everyone
finally i have decided to get a dslr ditching my handy digicam cause i felt lately the pics from the digicam r not that gr8 after all n now as all my friends have it, so i got to have it :P aka pear pressure.
leaving jokes aside i have decided to have a budget of 35K for starter (+/- 2-3k won't matter).WHAT R MY OPTIONS?? i remember one of my friend told me to get a canon or Sony, one of these(can't remember which one) as getting a secondhand lens is easy?

thank you

Go for canon 550D.
As for availability of lens between sony and canon is concerned canon will be easier to get.

Well you have the canon 550D,nikon D3200 and the Sony A35/37 SLT.All are great choices.

If you want phase detect AF in lcd/liveview or videos nothing comes close to the SLT,the drawback of the Sony is the limited amount of lenses available, but for a non professional shooter they have plenty of good cheap lenses .

I recently bought the A57 SLT i considered the 600d,650D and the nikon D5100,D7000,Sony A77,65 .The A57 ticked all the right boxes,i am impressed with the EVF,its so much bigger then and has 100% coverage compared to the dim small penta mirror type OVF found in the D5100/550d,600d .
The fact that you can use the lcd to take photo as fast as other DSLR is a big advantage, with the canon and nikon you always have to see through the OVF if you don't want to miss an action, since using the lcd in those cameras means you have to rely on the CDAF which is slow.

first of all thanks for helping but i din't got a word u said, its to technical for me as i'm new to this i only know megapixel,definition,iso....

how is their lcd slow???

Well what i said was when you compose a image or shoot a still photo by looking via the lcd, the Auto Focus/AF of Nikon and canon DSLR cameras are very slow,in many cases slower then point and shoot cameras because they are using the Contrast Detect AF or CDAF.The same applies if you are shooting a video.

You can get fast Phase Detect Auto focus/PDAF only if you shoot via OVF(optical View finder) for still photos. In video mode you have no choice but to use the LCD since the OVF is blank because the mirror flips up.

But in the Sony SLT whether you shoot via the EVF(electronic View Finder) or the rear lcd you always get fast Phase Detect AF or PDAF,so its very fast.

Now a CDAF relies on the software to determine the maximum contrast,it adjusts the focus until there is maximum contrast, the camera in this mode is not aware whether the subject you are shooting is in front or back of the current focus,so the software will adjust the focus until the maximum contrast was detected so it will go back and forth called focus hunting .
In CDAF the camera cannot track and AF if the subject is moving.

Where as in PDAF the camera already knows whether the subject is in front or behind the focus,so there is no focus hunting,

so can i get a PDAF slr under 35k, if not what is/are my best option in my budget with their pros n cons so i can decide for myself, ones again ur quick reply is much appreciated :hail:

If you want PDAF only in Optical View Finder and in still photos you have options like canon 550d,nikon D3200 .
in those models when shooting via lcd or if you take videos it will use CDAF.

If you want PDAF both in Electronic view Finder and Lcd and in videos then you can get the Sony A37/35. Read reviews like from DPreview to see the pros and Cons.
