1 small click tone is coming from my hard disk.
It is coming from my WD 250 HDD.

When i defragmented i got some unmovable space too.
Does it mean that I got a bad sector??
Is my HDD replacable under warranty?
This sound does not come all the time.It starts coming from between any work.
Then it goes on clicking from minute to minute. And my processes hang for 5-10 secs.

If it does not start clicking then it does not give any problem.
What to do?
Do they replace such HDD?
What shud I say them while giving them for replacement?

backup all data that you do not want to lose.

your drive is trying to hint you that it is about to die on you shortly..

and yes it will be replaced under warranty..

I do get a clicking sound from my hdd but mainly when i download from torrents. The clicking sound is normal read and write cycle right?:( the process hang might be indicative of dying hard disk.
I checked for my hard disks with hd senitel showed no problems.
How can click sound be indicative of dying hard disk?

It could be that during Torrent DLing, your disk spun down to save power and then Spun back up.

Coz when a disk spins up, it does seem to hang the system and will lead to clicking noises.

You could check this in Power Options.

But if this happens in the middle of a big file transfer(Copy Paste etc), probably indicates issues.

Clear indication that the HDD is failing. Absolutely no doubts about that, especially since u mentioned it is freezing for 5-10 secs.

Consider urself lucky that u got some notice before it failed. Backup ur data ASAP and then run a diagnostic tool to see if it gives some error codes. And then replace it under warranty.

Repeat: Backup ur data ASAP :)

i also had the same problem some time back! but i replaced the cables and formatted my os drive, it solved the problem and that hdd is still working without problems! it doesn't clicks anymore...

^^ yup mine too was clicking away, but luckily I got the time to take a backup. By that time HDD was heating up like hell; it would work only if I kept it outside the cabinet and gave it some good air flow using a pedestal fan.

Ran seatools on it and gave me a nice error code. Gave it for RMA and got a replacement within a week (certified repaired though :( ).

Jeffy, what happened to the drive u gave for RMA, did u get the replacement ?
