:noob: ALERT!!

Hi Guys

Pls excuse the lack of technical lingo & know-how, for this is something that I'm not too familiar with..

Need to connect the following:
2 Desktops
1 Lappy with Wi-Fi

Situation:
Due to unavoidable circumstances, I'll have to opt for an MTNL Broadband connection & I'd like to share that 256 Kbps connection amongst the 3 comps.

My Query:

1. How do I create a Personal LAN for the same?

2. Since the MTNL guys are charging a lot for the modem, and the simple fact that I'd need a Wi-Fi router anyhow, I'd like to know if there's any device that could do the both for me..What i mean is a combo device which has both an inbuilt ADSL modem (for MTNL) & is also a wi-fi router?? If yes, then for how much can I procure the same?

Would really appreciate some assistance..:help:

TIA
Cheers!!

PS: Maybe if Query2 can be answered first..and the equipment(s) purchased, then it might be a bit easier to answer Query1

what u need is a simple 4 port wireless router.. cost arond 3k. the mtnl ADSL switch connects to the router.. then u can attach 2 destop to the wireles router which is configured for DHCP IP... similarly u just enable wireless mode in the router and through DHCP ur latop will be assigned automatic ip. thats all . also ur wireless routers default gateway will be the ADSL routers IP.

Thanx MaxGuru but what I'm particularly interested in knowing is that if there's one single device that acts as both the ADSL modem and wireless router..

For eg:
At home, I've Beetel 220BX ADSL2+ Modem (provided by Airtel - NO RENT) connected to my Linksys WRT54G and everything's cool..

But for office, only MTNL can be used and they charge a monthly rent in addition to the Rs. 500-odd initial deposit for their ADSL modem..

So what I very specifically wanna enquire initially is that --> Is there a product in the Indian market which is a wi-fi router cum ADSL modem (since I heard about something like this from a friend sometime back..:S )?
And If yes, then pls mention brand/model & approx. cost..

TIA

Hi, two products i have personally tested and available in the mumbai market easily.

1. 3COM office connect ADSl+

2. Linksys WAG354G.

The reason these two are better than a regular one, is that they have a wireless G option. The 3COM is more expensive and comes with two antennae, while the linksys comes with an internal antennae but with the option of a high gain. This should be very usefull for you laptop, and save you the cost of an access point.

i have seen couple of products that act as a wireless router and an ADSL modem . these were with some clients at the united states . will try and get some info about them for you . meanwhile have you tried googling :D

Thanx PCJedi & SharkhaN for your replies..

But since the only product I got to know about with similar capabilities was some 5-6K odd (from Linksys), I decided to go in for a regular wi-fi router from Netgear..Netgear WGR614 (Just Rs. 2025/- :hap2: ), coupled with the adsl modem provided by MTNL..Its some Huawei Technologies product..SmartAX MT882 :S

Have to do with this I guess!!

Thanx neways!!:hap5:

PS: Ofcourse I tried Googling!! Nothing beats Google..:bleh: :ohyeah:
