Smart batten (tube light) that can change colors

I am looking for smart tube light (batten) which can be connected with wifi.
We should be able to change colors and also dim the lighting if needed.

There are some models in amazon from wipro and some other brand. But reviews are mostly mixed and people are saying sometimes it connects and sometimes it fails, blah blah...
Becz of such reviews I am not able to find which of them works good.

Can someone who used or knew about such lights confirm if there's a good working model?

It gives warm white, neutral white or cool white.

I am also planning to buy one for one of the rooms where I get reflection of normal LED batten in TV but with this, we can lower the intensity of light while watching TV.

I think it is rgb only....If you see some reviews they are showing red, green and several other colors...But it's confusing, even I didn't find the model in Wipro website. Maybe discontinued, I guess.

The person who suggested me this had RGB in this one. But as you mentioned, the models seems discontinued. Only the Shades of White and Yellow versions seems to be available.
 
Amazon negative reviews are mostly from people who don't know how to return or properly configure these things. I've bought a ton of IoT stuff off Amazon. Most work. There are quite a few duds in between, but that's what the return process is for. In one case i did have a flaky wifi connection and reached out to wccl customer support, and a dude eventually called me back, and it turned out that re pairing it fixed it. Also, have a very robust wifi network all over your house. 2.4 ghz. If you have a cheap router sitting in one corner of your house, or have disabled 2.4g, or have parents who keep turning off the bulb using the physical switch, be prepared for a world of pain
 
I have a Wipro smart tubelight (non-RGB) and smart bulb (RGB). Both of them work just fine, been using for over a year. Connection issues happen only if your router or internet connection keeps dropping every once in a while. If the connections are stable, then there's no issue (at least for me).

Also, you have to leave the switch on at all times and switch it off only using the app. If you keep turning the switch on and off, then it will definitely annoy the hell out of you.

One pointer, if you do end up buying Wipro lights, don't use the Wipro app. Their app is half baked and doesn't really work. That might also be the reason for many complaints. Use the Smart Life app. Wipro's smart light tech is licensed from Smart life, they don't make their own. Even their app is a poor copy of Smart life app. So their lights work just fine with Smart life app.

Thanks for the very useful info...It helped me understand what to expect when using smart devices.
By the way, both of you suggested not to switch off the device with main switch...May I know the reason? I just want to understand if it is due to their poor implementation or if this is the rule for all the IOT devices.

Thanks for the link, never came across this model, will check it out...Most of our local stores, (even if they are big shops), are not selling any smart tube lights and whenever I asked, they are like, bro they are waste..

I can only explain what I face, and can only try to guess the reason behind it. Basically every time the device is powered off and on, it needs to reconnect to wi-fi. Now these devices, being very low cost, don't seem to have the most robust wi-fi antennas. So once in every 5-6 on/off cycles, it will just refuse to connect to wi-fi on its own. Then I have to reconnect it with the app. Sometimes this also means reconfiguring my routines on Smart Life/Alexa because it gets registered as a new device.

Between power outages, long trips, and accidental switching off, I need to do this once every 3-4 months. But if you have to do this every week, it will get tiring very soon. So best not to use the physical switch. Even better if you have Alexa/Google Nest so that everyone at your home can use voice commands after single configuration.
 
I have found brightness level in smart lights a little lacking compared to normal LED lights.

better to buy sonoff wifi switch and make normal LED lights smart.

My requirement here, is, not about making it smart for on & off, but to actually be able to reduce/increase brightness and also to change colors.
 
I use the 20w batten in a 16x9.5 room and find the brightness to be sufficient. It's probably 5% lower than the previous light I was using, but it didn't really bother me much. If I need more light, I just use the second tubelight in the room, but it is rarely needed.

If the walls are dark coloured though, then one might find it lacking. But that happens with any light. In such cases, it is recommended to put two lights on opposite sides of the room or on the ceiling, if provision is there. The advantage of smart light in this case would be that you can create a group and control them as one, akin to having a single switch for multiple lights.
 
Is it generally possible to flash a oss firmware or something that will let you control it even when wipro's servers are not accessible on this wipro tubelight?

Then buy a good smart rgb led bulb instead. The posted wipro rgb batten was something even I was looking earlier but only warm /golden colors are available everywhere so gave up.
Smart rgb bulbs doing the job ftw.
