Hey Guys,

Was wondering how the Mobile Technology has evolved at an exceeding pace over the years.
From Just a Voice & Text Device to an All Round Computing Device touching every aspect of our day to day lives.
Be it emailing, editing a document, listening to music & videos, capturing those priceless moments, connecting with friends and family via social networking sites, gaming and other activities of vital importance.
The journey form being a Phone to a SmartPhone has been commendable and inspiring.
This brings me to the question what innovation is now needed?
According to me the need for the hour is Innovation in Battery Technology because all these feats of a Smartphone can only be performed if you have enough juice to last you a rigorous day. We have seen how the processing capabilities of a Phone has gone up from a few Mhz to 1 Ghz to Dual Core and Now Quad Core. Also the Ram has been cranked up till 1 GB, Games are becoming graphic intense and the display resolution has reached 720P, data speeds are also very high.
But all this innovation needs the singlemost and most basic requirement a High capacity Small sized BATTERY. Because its the fuel for the Device.

I request you all to put forward your views about the Innovation that Cellphone needs.

Battery limitation are actually due to physical limitations of material at this point in time.

Battery technology in mobile devices and storage technology and its vulnerability in computing devices are two biggest weak links in tech sector as of now.

Batteries are now slimmer, but we still use same basic technology as we had close to 10 years back. And to maintain the form factor and design and to control weight, manufacturers are not putting bigger batteries in the devices.

Our devices have become very power efficient over time considering 1500mah battery still lasts for the same time for a mobile which is probably 10 times more powerful than what was being powered by that same battery 4-5 years back.

But unless someone comes up with radical new way of making a battery which is economically and environmentally viable, we are stuck with this limiting factor. And it does not look like anything will change in next 3-5 years in this department. Our devices will get more efficient, but there wont be any real improvement in battery life (time wise)

The biggest change will probably have to come in the design and functionality of the phone. Siri might be great, but until something like that comes with native on device processing capabilities, it is pretty useless in developing world.

The other thing I am worried about and would like to change is dumbing down of technology. I know making device simple actually helps it sell more, but I dont like the fact that they are moving away from power users. This has been happening with mobile phones and tablets as well. I would like it to change.

Have lots of other views, will probably post them later tonight or in the afternoon when I am free.

if power users are those using xda-developers then it may not b entirely correct.
the site was formed coz of windows mobile O2 xda series, in those times Htc was not really supportive but the developers formed the forum to tweak their devices

nowadays though the UI is being simplified but companies are providing drivers, and other sources to developers
like Samsung and Sony ericsson presenting phones to cyanogen, etc

i am not a engineer but still i find i have more options now than before, carriers are forced to unlock their bootloaders

if u know how the "HTC Kaiser" controversy ended without qualcomm video drivers being released by HTC and the enormous pressure from forums did nothing!!
it was only after Samsungs entry with i900 that situation changed with sammy providing native .avi support and laying stress on media functionality.

But finally u know better, since its just my assumption as i am not in this field by profession and dont understand the technicalities

hope to listen from u and increase my knowledge
:)

these are quite valid points.Fuel-cell can be replacement for batteries, buy a phone and u would no need charge it whole lifetime.
