wow:D

that went sooo smoothly!!!

I expected them to ask me million questions... and basically interrogate me..

I just walked in.. handed my drive.. he looked at it.. said that an IC had burned.. it could not be repaired.. he would replace it.. filled out a form.. and said a new drive would be ready in 1 week..

ok.. now.. When i asked him why the IC burned.. he said most likely a problem with the SMPS.

I right now got a PRIME 250WAt smps.. it's not going to be able to take the load of another HDD is it?

umm...

P4 3.0Ghz

Intel 865GBF mobo

1 floppy drive..:P

1 CD writer

1 DVD drive

GEforce mx4000:(

Seagate 80GB HDD

1X512MB ,2X128MB ram

a LAN card

and a modem card

and 3 fans..:P

Now plannin to add one more 120GB hdd

Hmm... yea.. No $$$....:P

but.. if I get a cheap PSU...(say around 1.5K(hehe.. shall start a thread when i save up enough..))

is there a step by step guide to connect it up????:D

cause I really want to learn to do it my self...

even if u have 1.5k all you can get is the zebby 400w platinum, it should be enough for the rig, but anyways there is no other option in chennai:P.

lolz...i had once fried my 160gb HDD trying to put the molex reverse...i waited for a day for burnt smell to do & sprayed some freshner..& replaced it with my dealer....

I burnt my seagate hdd, went to the service center, they rejected it sayin that they dont accept burnt hdd's. :(

hehe... fingers crossed.. now that he has told me he would replace the drive hope they don't take back their word..

Btw.. how much is a decent PSU?

Incedently, I used to sit in Nehru Place not long ago. and the warranty center was on the sixth floor of the same building that I was in, every now and then when you visited their center you would find a customer brawling after losing the bill and the warranty guy inevitably asking for it.
Ive replaced about 60 odd HDDs for my customers including my own 300 GB they only asked me or bill once. Different experience maybe.

rofl yeah I am very sure that is the same case with all your customers when they deal with you :bleh:

once they have taken the drive for replacement they wont be any problems
get a zebby 400w or 500w psu..that 250 is not enough for this rig now you know what killed the drive :P dont try this again on the new drive you get lol

In our Institute there are 25 PCs with iBall 400W SMPS with this config -
P4 3.0Ghz HT
Intel D101GGC mobo
Floppy drive..
DVD ROM
Seagate 80GB HDD SATA
512MB ram
etc.
Even my RiG used to run on the same PSU. :cool2:

:D:D I got my replacement HDD... it's been ready for a week... had exams..

anyway thanks all for all the help!!

PS: where can i find an idiots guide to HDD installation..?

^^ Congrats man....Your experience with the dealer is an eye opener in things not to do when buying hardware !

I think this is the reason why assemblers charge extra when you buy hardware through them. They have the channels all set up and know the people involved so the end customer has peace of mind for that extra 500 bucks that they charge.

Anyways, good to know that the HDD was replaced.
