Hmph, this thread ain't about you or me sneaking into E3! With E3 looming large like a blade propped over gamer's heads, the folks over at cgonline have taken out a list of some 'BlackOps' game projects that are sneaking into E3 to, possibly, take the gaming world by surprise.
Splash Damage’s next game – You may not know the name but you know Splash Damage’s work if you downloaded and played Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, the hugely popular (and free) stand alone multiplayer shooter based on Return to Castle Wolfenstein. However, the blokes in the UK based developer are already working on their next full game and they have admitted on their web site that they are working once again with Wolfenstein creator id Software and Activision on their next title, which will be based on the Doom 3 engine. With id’s involvement, we can give out a few educated guesses; a new stand alone Wolfenstein title? Maybe a Doom 3 stand alone multiplayer game in the vein of Enemy Territory? Hopefully we will not have to wait for long.
Human Head’s next game – The Wisconsin based developer of games like Rune and Dead Man’s Hand is hard at work on their next game and it’s likely to be a shooter. The only real fact we have is that it will be a Doom 3 engine based title, although there is some speculation over at Shacknews that it might be a revival of 3D Realms' cancelled shooter Prey. That’s pretty much all we know (we don’t even have a publisher for this game yet) but we will keep a close eye on this title as the months go by.
Iron Lore’s first game – It’s been a few years since Iron Lore was formed by Brian Sullivan, formerly of Ensemble Studios, and since that time the company has been working quietly on some type of game that blends action, adventure and RPG elements, according to the company’s web site. Last year the company announced a publishing deal with THQ, but no other info on the game has been revealed. When will we hear more about this title? Maybe at E3? Possibly…
Lionhead’s Dimitri – Until just yesterday, nothing was known about this game except for the code name but the Computer and Video Games site revealed via a chat with Lionhead’s Peter Molyneux that the game is about recreating the player’s real life. Er…ok. That’s it folks…nothing more to see here..move along.
Crytek’s next game – The developer of the acclaimed first person shooter Far Cry is already working on their next game, but it’s not likely to be a sequel to the Ubi Soft published shooter. We know this because several months ago the developer signed a new deal with publisher Electronic Arts for their next major project. We can speculate that it will be a shooter and that it will use a highly improved version of their own CryEngine game graphics technology. But at of this moment, we can’t know for sure.
Castaway Entertainment’s first game – Over a year ago, Castaway Entertainment, a new California based group composed of a number of ex-Blizzard North employees, announced a deal with Electronic Arts to create a new action-RPG title. Since then, well…that’s all we know so far. Feel free to make up your own speculation here; neither company is talking at the moment.
Arkane Studios’ next game – The developer of the cult hit first person action-RPG Arx Fatalis is working on their next game and what’s cool about it is that it will use the Source engine, the same engine that Valve Software created for use in its hit first person shooter Half-Life 2 Will Arkane’s Source engine game be a sequel to Arx Fatalis or something very different? Hmmmmm…the mystery continues.
Gas Powered Games’ next game – the developer of Dungeon Siege and its upcoming sequel supposedly does have another unannounced game in the works, and the only thing we know about it is that it will be a RTS title. Since Gas Powered was founded by Chris Taylor, the creator of the classic RTS game Total Annihilation, we think it will be something akin to that terrific game..or maybe not. Again, it’s all very hush-hush.
Khaeon’s next game – The developer of the Serious Engine based sci-fi tactical shooter Alpha Black Zero didn’t get a lot of attention for that title, but maybe it’s next game will generate some buzz. Their web site announces their next game is an Unreal engine based title and the site’s cover image is of a really nasty looking beast. We got nothing else on this one yet.
Remedy’s next game – The folks behind the first two terrific Max Payne titles are hiring for their next project already, according to their web site and of course those folks who are picked to joing will work on Remedy's next generation game. However, a Remedy level designer has already stated on the Shacknews web site that it will not be Max Payne 3.
id Software’s next game – While the creator behind the entire first person shooter genre is allowing other developers to create games based on their properties, id is known to be working on their next game in-house, which they have already stated will be an original property. Don’t look for info on this game to be revealed for some time, however.
3D Realms’s next game – Yes, yes, yes, we know…Duke Nukem Forever still has not come out after over seven years in development. But according to the company’s head man Scott Miller over in his own web blog, that isn’t stopping the developer on creating another, original, game as well (although it might be Prey…hey, we are just thinking out loud at this point) That’s about all we know..and frankly, we would just be satisfied with Duke Nukem Forever coming out sometime this decade.
So, CryTek finally sold their soul to EA, what a shame.
