SNR ratio not ideal on BSNL??

Hi folks its been a nightmare for getting the BSNL broadband :@ ,got it finally yesterday after calling the support for at least 20 times to reset my username and password.I started few torrents and noticed that my download speeds are not consistent it varies between 10kbps to 60 kbps ,with great difficulty got to the support peeps and they said that my SNR for upstream is 6.2 whereas ideal is 12 or above and they did also say that there might be a line problem.Afaik there is no line problem coz i have the telephone cable coming directly from the BSNL box to my ADSL splitter.How do i make sure that the SNR is above 12.I am cursing my self for taking BSNL :@ :@.Please help me out with this issue.Btb i have a Bettle 220BXI modem and a Linksys WRT54G router.

First in router settings, in dsl settings, use g.dmt, that wil increase it a bit..

And dont worry even mine hovers in that range, the speed u get has nothing to do with it, but you may get disconnected sometimes due to the adsl connection failing...
 
It keeps fluctuating, even when your calling, it will be higher.

Its in the dsl settings..

Look for dsl on the left side..

Edit:- oh okie, you dont have bsnl modem, so dunno where this option will be..
 
well SNR ratio problem as got be with ur line,when near my house the underground cable was messed up by the water supply guys who were digging i had a SNR drop from 22~24 to about 6~9 and my internet was slow,very slow ping time and in the modem DSL network status there were lots of error.
after they sorted out the problem the SNR of US is 22~ DS is 25~.
 
Some Tips for getting A1 Services from BSNL / MTNL Broadband...

Ask your not so friendly BSNL guy to get your parameter report for your connection...

If there is EBL (Earth Battery Loop) in parameter report... ask your line man to clear that first... Bribe/Intimidate/Beg whatever...

If All the parameter are not acceptable... get your DP Wire Pair changed if Parameter report is still not well under acceptable limit or get your land line number changed (Whatever It Takes)...

PS: Once your internet connection is stablized you will realize This is the Best VFM connection there is 2 MBps and hardly ever down... then it will just be a nightmare for storage space..

Just needs patience to get this up... Talking from experience even got this disconnected twice in disgust but soon realize these reliance / airtel and tata are no match for 2 MBps NU (Daily Download 5.0-5.5GB) averages 205KBps for eight hours ... that not only good that gr8...

Thanks for the all the info peeps, will have a talk with the BSNL walla.Btb will cordless phone create a problem??? .I do have one which operates on 2.4Ghz.I cant avoid using it coz the internal telephone wiring of our house is messed up so no more parallel phones.I have the dual cordless phones from Panasonic not sure about the model number.I never had issue of the phone signals interfering with my wi-fi signals when i was with Airtel!!!!
 
i assume, u must have tested connection speeds with ethernet cable and not only with Wifi.

And saurav, thanks for detailed info about what can be done. 5 gb per night is just mind blowing. I am also on combo 500C plan but dont get that much speed. What are ur sources for downloading, RS, MU kind of stuff or torrent?

Thanks for the guide "SauravR".It worked for me .I had to go the BSNL office for 3 days continuously and follow them up,there was Earth battery loop in the connection got that removed,changed the DP wire and changed the port for my no in the exchange and now i get SNR as 28~30 which i feel is good .But there is one problem i am getting attenuation of 43.0 which i feel i very high .I spoke to the my are divisional engg ,she says in the exchange the attenuation for my line is of about 0 but not sure why i am getting 43 which is very high .Can u help with this??.She says she doesnt know what needs to be done:@ .My speed is still not upto the mark i am getting 50kbps:(.

Sorry for going a little OT but wasnt the BSNL NU 500C plan for 6 hours (2-8 AM). Did they change it?
