So, i came across a desi site mentioning per month cost to 2K USD. I find it ridiculous as i am on sites running as little as 85 English Pounds. :cool2:
Although the 85UKP tracker isnt a scc tracker, it mostly has Users uploading their DVDs and etc.. (hint anime tracker)

Would like to have inputs from members and if they have any experience running a tracker or some idea on hosting a website, bandwidth and etc. etc.

And Is the cost really that high to run a tracker ?

AFAIK, a decent dedi would cost 200~300 USD and this includes the bandwidth. I wonder where does the rest of money goes ?
 
I think since bandwidth is far more expensive running a tracker in India should definitely cost more but nothing more than $800
 
It is also about how many servers you have. I think you are referring to BWT - they claim they have 7 servers, and honestly, the quality of their tracker has been undisputed. I haven't got better trackers elsewhere.
 
Server costs depend on number of users , and BWT has MANY Users. Although the cost might not be as much as $2000 , but it is certainly in that range.

7 servers for what ? They run a forum, have uploaders axx and tracker.

Sites such as big as BTN dont have per month cost as 2K USD, btn has auto upload scripts, continuous upload of stuff as soon as scene releases TV shows and uploaders have scene axx which requires money per user. Not mentioning the cool Indexing by sysops there. unlike most desi sites where indexing is based on bollywood/tollywood/kollywood/DDL links/Music videos/Songs and stuff.

None of our desi sites need scc axx per se (thus saving scene axx costs, I am sure desi sysops must be having scene axx somewhere), its kind of desi scene, (camming and uploading to a source) and most groups are P2P. None are closed groups like w4t(or something like that)

Is there any other desi site with similar budget ?
 
u can't compare desi sites with non desi sites .

there is lots of things that make site , people should understand that it's "illegal " stuff which need to be setup & there are lot of work /precaution other things which cost in money .

it's not something like just random shared or dedi box . It's dedicated h/w with lots of b/w .
 
There are a lot of admins here from torrent site,

A simple cost break should tell you that half the money these sites get is kept by the admins and rest goes to network costs. These also include seedboxes

I would cal it justified in a way cause these sites require significant effort and are very risky.

This is never mentioned by them. The donation message looks like all money goes towards server fees. I also feel, some uploaders might be getting money to upload stuff on sites.

Security and precution has to taken by all sites and it's sad to see most good desi sites are most insecure amongst trackers. A random google search will lead you to forums and Torrent Browse page of desi site. You as non-member can surf the entire site, you only need to sign-in for posting in forum or downloading the specific torrent, rest can be browsed completely as non-member, details such as which file is put up as torrent and who has uploaded it !! <- now that is insecure.

Whereas some good nondesi sites require you to login first or lead you to sites with fake login pages and you can't google their pages. With strict rules and monitoring by mafia, non-desi sites need to maintain more security than our desi sites due to less to no monitoring of these sites by Indian law enforcing agencies !!

"Allowing google to cache their pages" may be it's kind of advertisement to give non members a sneak peek what's inside and motivating them to donate and signup. some desi site dont have option to donate and signup, but some do. And i must say the attraction is tempting for an average Indian. And ofcourse there is the flourishing pirated CD business which is particularly LAME.

Non-desi sites are also not saints, some require to donate for signup., and some have monthly msg reminders for donation.
 
^ as you mentioned , google sneak is to keep money flow in but security issues are not same with each desi site . They are capable of all things as fights come after periods even in desi sites .

i think this will motivate others to chip in. I am sure u all are aware of a particular tracker, which lists down everything right frm hardware to new server / upgrades to charges for technical expertise. And they are so open abt their finances, that if they are in excess funds, they take off the donation button for months!!

There were some who went ahead with the finance break up and were able to survive months due to the inflow. I am sure every donator wants to know where is his donated money goes into ?

I had not seen a tracker which takes off the donation button if they get excess donations. The transparency is what makes others involved in the site's finance. The present breed of trackers keep the excess donations as reserve funds for future server costs.

The in-fighting b/w creative minds do crop up, and its not restricted to desi sites. There are far bigger frauds in other trackers than in our desi sites. Atleast, havent heard any admin who took donations for paying his baby's diapers :rofl:

Anyhow, my issue still lies with the amount and the transparency of break up.
 
hell i've heard of a tracker which faked its own sysops death and got the members to pay for fake funeral.

and lo and behold the sysop came back within a month proclaiming he is alive (jesus' 3 days anyone ;) )

I was a member of this tracker called ScT for only 2 months , before it closed down and escaped with around 10000 Euro donations ... %$%$%# . Also , this StN made donations mandatory to keep membership [ and for obvious reasons got shut down soon enough ] /
 
Exactly, the same apprehension with trackers who don't provide transparency or huge costs.

Stn was doing good. But, it seems the site was designed with only one motive - to take off with donations. From P2P it became P2L like CM8

well firstly to run a tracker u will need alot of resources, not only servers and bandwidth but u'il need coders to code ur site and u will also need to acquire maybe depending on what the site model maybe the coding software.

Servers well u can run say 3 amd x6 servers with bout 4 2tb hdd's and u can have auto upload script, which now almost every tracker has but to get that axx u will have to join a community of trackers the source of the uploads. You will need an irc server a forum and good seed boxes. I am staff somewhere and the tracker i staff on has a monthly cost of 1k GDP and 70% comes from seed boxes that the site offers users and donations which users make in for vip and ofc other policies like not getting banned if they hit and run, etc.
