I would like to know how long socket 754 based processors will be availabe before they officially die out? I thought 754 had life for another year in low end segment but with Sempron in 939 socket I am skeptical about its longevity. Anyone can tell me how long it may last?

Yeah thats kinda going to be the pattern I read at Anandtech. AMD will have two desktop chips out at once, one low-end and the other high-end.

The upgrade cycles will remain as it is, Socket 939 will be outdated too in a years time, buy what is economical for you. Thumb rule in the computer industry never try to gauge a system's longevity as technological innovation here is faster than you think.

nah i have a 754 socket m/b lying around. I will be shifting to chennai july next year for work. Was thinking if it could be put to any use in june july time.

I bought a socket 754 config even when it was on the verge of dying, in june this year. The advantage ? The cost of the CPU+ mobo combined was less than the cost of the cpu itself on the s939 at that time.
Plus i am running my cpu o/ced without crashing, running rock stable @ 2.43 ghz, and it's on par with a Socket 939 3500+

I am quite positive this cpu/mobo config will last me for more than a year and a half with high performance in most games.

S754 wont be over officially till those cheap and fast semprons are released, in performance sense.

me using socket 754 too. got it sep last year. my guess is that it should last at least two years. once the price of m2 stabilizes, it should be the logical upgrade
