The growing popularity of reusable energy has prompted Taiwan-based A-Data Technology and Micro-Star International (MSI) to introduce solar cells into their latest flash-based memory devices.The Taiwanese manufacturers A-Data and MSI plan to unveil solar-powered flash devices at CeBIT in Germany.

A-Data is launching the Solar Disk USB drive equipped with a solar cell module at CeBIT. The drive does not have a built-in battery but has a solar-powered LCD that displays its remaining capacity.It will come in 128MB, 25MB, 512MB, 1GB and 2GB models.The product supports USB 1.1/2.0 connectivity and it is expected to be generally available in April. 2006

Meanwhile , MSI will be unveling a solar cell-equipped MP3 player at the show. This concept MP3 player uses the solar module to charge the built-in lithium battery and provide supplementary power to extend battery life. Solely relying on the solar cell to charge the battery would take two days under ordinary outdoor light :mad: and a fully charged battery is good for up to 10 hours of continuous playback. MSI plans to move this product into mass production and the device will use a solar module supplied by a local solar cell maker.Pricing and availability have not yet been announced.

Only the pricing will decide wat will be their Future??

Good to see something like that come up in the market. Hopefuly it'll sell a lot and encouage other flash, mp3 players to have the same technology.

Solar Powered mobile phones? Hell yeah!! :p
 
^^that day may not be far away...;) btw, imagine if the solarmobile(i like the name :p ) does not have a conventional battery backup..and u drain out in the middle of the night during a chat with your GF...LOLz..:bleh:

they better make the stuff heat resistant. It would be decent for car journeys and the like. But mobile phones? when you're not using them, arent they in your pocket?
