Hi fellas, how it would be if the title of a solved thread renamed as [SOLVED]. This will be very helpful for other members who are having similar problem and will also stop the occasional thread bumpers

Just an idea, what do you suggest fellas ?

Re: How about a [solved] tag ?

Very good maybe it will act as a subliminal incentive to ACTUALLY CONCLUDE threads in other areas too.

Re: How about a [solved] tag ?

A good idea, at least this way we can separate the wheat from the chaff. Also since some of the posts deal with computer troubleshooting, is there some guide/tutorial/checklist which we can make into a sticky?

Re: How about a [solved] tag ?

Mods don't have time to close threads in the marketplace and you'd like them to add a SOLVED tag to threads?

LOL

---

On the other hand, maybe if members were given a chance to correct their thread title then this could be easier?

Re: How about a [solved] tag ?

Sometimes i too search for a particular and find number of thread related to that, marking a thread as [SOLVED], saves a lot of time. thanks guys for supporting, now let the mods and admins speak

In that case, it can be added under the thread tools part, where the OP can mark his thread as solved when his problem is solved or when he is satisfied. This will in turn rename the thread title as - solved

Re: How about a [solved] tag ?

personally i think, let the member who opened the thread, should put a small summary in the first post itself saying which suggestion helped him solve the problem.

ex: wrap the summary in code tags and put it in first post.

Code:
[B]Problem:[/B] Computer does not save bios settings.

[B]Status:[/B] Solved

[B]Summary:[/B] Changing the cmos battery helped.

[B]Optional info:[/B]

1. Bios was updated - didn't work.

2. Bios set to defaults - didnt work.

etc etc..

If you want more detailed info, maybe a longer summary about what steps were tried and what succeeded or not to be put under "Optional".

The reason i"m asking the TS to do this is it will help him retain the info which he learned from others and also help new people to quickly run through the scenario which he had done without opening a new thread.

:)

Re: How about a [solved] tag ?

^ that will be better but i doubt that the TS will do so, being busy in their daily life, members will not be interested in doing so though this is a better suggestion.

To save time and work (for lazy fellow like me:P) a single click button will be better

Re: How about a [solved] tag ?

In seagate forums if you have asked a query and it has been solved/resolved then its written below first post SOLVED and link to that post is there which was the solution

Why mods OP can himself do it and if there are 2/3 correct posts link them

It would be easier than summary copy paste

Re: How about a [solved] tag ?

I think 6pack(MOD) is right,The above format will help to get a quicker response from other TE members to resolve problem faster.

I think the format should be added as a sticky,so that everyone follows the same pattern while asking help to any query.

making a button is not the solution.

come on! how long will it take to copy paste from the same thread? If people find it too troublesome to copy paste the summary and help others, then will making an extra button help?

They might not even click on the button in the first place.

If a thread had 10 pages with a solved status, will you read through an entire thread to find out what helped or not? Will the extra button really save your time in this case?

Re: How about a [solved] tag ?

^ i have no objection to that, just felt that the members will not co-operate [just my thought, not targeting anyone]

Have often wondered about this..

Say i wanted to create a thread titled 'WILD TE TOGA MEAT PARTY' it would be allowed

..but if i made a typo (MEET) then there is chance for misunderstanding and no way to rectify it :(

There is a way, Use the 'Report Post' button :)

Hate to break it to you but this a community, not a tech support forum where a thread is closed when the troubleshooting ticket is closed. Then people will get funny ideas to have *recommended reviewers* *recommended advisor* as "this will be helpful for other members".

How hard can it be to ignore it and let it go behind unless you have the need to bump it?

you can very well edit a thread title if you are the author.

go in edit and then go advanced.

Mate i know that this is a community, what i am saying is just to mention a solved problem as solved, otherwise new users simply bump those thread. Also marking a thread as solved helps us later

Re: How about a [solved] tag ?

Not sure how many users are actually willing to put that tag on the title after the issue is resolved. Many might not personally bother with that. Making that mandatory isn't required IMO.

Re: How about a [solved] tag ?

^ why not just enable the feature and check for a month or two, responsible members will surely do their work, the remaining will just watch the others

Re: How about a [solved] tag ?

^We'll consider this and add to it our To do. But nothing for next one or two more months.
