Im thinking of integrating sata drivers in my win xp install cd but im not sure if there is a generic driver for sata hard disks or if every different mobo needs different sata drivers.

If every mobo needs its own sata driver then there is no point in integrating it in the cd.

sata drivers?

doesnt xp detect sata drivers by default?

as far as i know i think u need to load raid drivers on xp cd if u running a raid array

SATA was developed long after WinXP was created. So XP does not have native support for SATA. Even SP2 never added SATA support - no idea why. Perhaps SP3?

I think nVidia goes around this by fooling XP into seeing the SATA ports as traditional IDE ports. As a result, I never needed SATA drivers during my WinXP install on my nForce4 platform. However, with the Via boards I have worked with , a SATA driver disk was essential during install.

Yes, AFAIK you would need different drivers for different chipsets. But that should be pretty simple - its mostly either the integrated nVidia or Via SATA drivers, rarely would it be an additional 3rd party controller on your motherboard.

Unless you suffer from upgraditis and upgrade regularly, your config will remain the same , so integrate the relevant drivers for your system. A year or so later, should you upgrade and your chipset changes, no harm in making a new slip-streamed CD!

If you need a link that gives info on how to slip-stream the drivers into your XP install CD : http://mt.maximumpc.com/2005/01/how_to_slipstre.html

Havent personally tried it out as yet, since i dont need it :P

I want to integrate sata drivers bcoz i sometimes assemble systems for my friends, i dont buy a floppy drive for them, 2 weeks back i bought one with a sata hdd, xp was asking for driver in a floppy.

Thatz y i want to slipstream it in xp, ive another question if a put multiple sata drivers from (via, nvidia, sis ) in the cd, will xp detect the correct drivers and install them.
