[Solved] unable to play video files

help! after I reinstalled windows XP(i overwrote the previous installation),i can't play my video files on any players (I have real ,windows media player,quick time players).whenever i try to play a video file the pc hangs .avi files don't play in divx player .mov files don't play in quicktime player.
In short I can't play any video files.
I have again installed the os after formatting the C:/ drive,even then the problem persists.
MY config is AMD 64,80 GB HDD,512 RAM,GeForce 6200(non TC version 256 mb),samsung syncmaster,
one more thing does a new card driver has anything to do with this ,I have installed force ware version 77.72 from the internet.
please help

could be a codec problem. try these players.

try using vlc (video lan player)
or mpc (media player classic)

Chk if hardware acceleration is set to full. Install dx 9.0c and get the latest drivers from Nvidias site.

Might be a software issue only.

Try VLC Player which storm suggested it shud work.

and download the codecs you require... try the K-Lite codec pack - they say with this "You should be able to play 99% of all the movies "

Did u try out Klite Codec Pack 2.54 Full

Use MplayerC provided with it to play the media files.

Also uninstall all previously installed codec packs , codecs etc to avoid conflicts.

u can try the Mplayer..ist not windows media player..basically its different player like the VLC. VLC can play any thing..

I again formatted my hard disk and installed XP again.Here is the interesting part I could run videos then when I installed Forceware driver from the Nvdia CD then guess what ? problem returns .When I uninstall the driver from the control panel Videos run again.Now what do i do.

which motherboard are u using.

also i think some other guys also had this problem. try diff nvidia display drivers.

I had a similar problem with the latest nvidia drivers.

I went back to XG 76.50 and it worked fine since then....

EDIT: just noticed that you said 77.72!! That is the source of your problem. I am quite sure of that. Install the previous version like 76.50 and it will work fine....

I have uninstalled 7772 driver and installed 76.10,one i got with the card but still it is not working,Has it to do something with the service packs,the original installation in which videos worked was service pack 1.Now it is without a service pack.

Well yes ! I have tried it from the link given by 'Quadmaster' videos only work when i have uninstalled the card driver.

Go to GURU 3d.com... the downloads section and try downloading the 76.50 Forceware version. They are the best till now(in what I have experienced). The latest ones gave me artefacts in ALL games. And that too when my system was at stock.

At last I have solved my problem ,I have installed XP sp2 in my OS and It works,Guess my drivers were not supported in the without sp XP.Thank u fellows for all our suggestions.:clap: :clap:
