I know this may sound strange in mkt section... but here is what I want.

I have a ASUS WL-500gP V2 router which has 2USB ports.
I want to hire the services of someone who can:
  • The router should be able to connect to internet using my USB 3G modem - Huawei E122/ UMG 1831.
  • The router should also work as a download rig to download torrents to the attached USB hardrive.
  • The hardrive shd be accessible on the LAN

The fees for installing and getting my router ready can be discussed later via PM.

Here is the link of my router:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - ASUS - ASUS WL-500gP V2

Re: Some Linux / router firmware help for installing custom firmware on my asus route

Yeah but since I already have this router I would like to get this one working....
^^ BTW the model Asus RTN13U-Ver B1 has only 1 USB port so how do u get both the USB modem and HDD working on it?

I will let you know by connect USB extension(1to4), As of know it is supporting USB 3G Modem and Able to access 8GB SD Card in Modem

Re: Some Linux / router firmware help for installing custom firmware on my asus route

B1 model does not have Custom firmware, for ASUS WL-500gP you can check dd-wrt forums lots of tutorial there

Re: Some Linux / router firmware help for installing custom firmware on my asus route

^^ Ya I tried few of them but was not successful due to my great knowledge of linux :ashamed:
And I did not find any specific tutorial for ASUS WL-500gP V2 so finally decided to outsource it :cool2:

Re: Some Linux / router firmware help for installing custom firmware on my asus route

Out of topic, but, Any success in Getting a USB 3g modem working on ASUS RT-N13U ? not the B1 model. I have the Older version of this running with DD-WRT.

Already tried this. Was able to install the f/w but was not able to get the modem working......
Installation of all 5-6 different f/w I tried was quite easy.... Where I got stuck is that some did not support 3G USB modems and with some I had issues configuring and with 2 I could update/install packages :(

Re: Some Linux / router firmware help for installing custom firmware on my asus route

did you posted on dd-wrt correctly about the problem ?

Re: Some Linux / router firmware help for installing custom firmware on my asus route

yeah tried searching a lot. Also posted queries back to the authors of those articles.... no reply...

Re: Some Linux / router firmware help for installing custom firmware on my asus route

You might have not posted in correct section and with proper investigation if you provide half baked information they wont help much

Re: Some Linux / router firmware help for installing custom firmware on my asus route

You can try disabling CD-drive/card reader in your modem and then connect it to dd-wrt. These things can be disabled by running AT commands!

Re: Some Linux / router firmware help for installing custom firmware on my asus route

^^ U can say that I am a big N00B when it comes to Linux commands specially where u install devices or applications :(
Will Try to try this :)

Re: Some Linux / router firmware help for installing custom firmware on my asus route

^^ I have disabled the cd drive and sd card using the link u gave with this ATcommand.
AT^U2DIAG=0
Also installed dd-wrt - mega firmware. but it does not detect the usb modem. The light on the modem is blinking.

now if you connect in pc, isn't modem shown directly instead of first cd drive, then modem mode?

Re: Some Linux / router firmware help for installing custom firmware on my asus route

Yeah When I connect to the PC it does not show the CD-Drive. But I can still use it as a modem.
Also on the router I have enabled the core USB, 1.1 and USB 2.0 but kept the USB printer and USB Storage disabled.
On the Setup--> WAN page I cant see the 3G/UMTS option.

Re: Some Linux / router firmware help for installing custom firmware on my asus route

Hm.. that case the build which you use doesnt have support for 3G modem :). Which version you are using? have you tried big builds?
