Some really 'Epic' stuff from Epic

Another thing that’s awesome is that the engine now scales all the way from an iPhone 3GS up to next-generation hardware. That means you could theoretically make a game that’d run on every single one of these devices. Mobile phones to tablets to set top boxes,” said Rein.

Brilliant!! people were raving about Crysis engine, but it hardly scaled. This should spawn a lot of games..

Ricky: You guys were developing a game long time back (Vbeing if I remember), did it hit the shelves, and are you developing more PC/Console titles?

Mind blowing stuff. PC gaming is just gonna get better from here. The pictures are unbelievable. Irrefutable evidence against the "pc gaming is dead" argument.

No no. You have to read full article posted somewhere else.

The renders were taken using 3xGTX580 in SLi. EPIC themselves said it will take another two to three generations for single GPUs to put such quality with performance as they have showcased.

THis is just Cryengine 2, enhanced and more bummer. CE2 ran on 3x8800GTX. This one on 3xGTX580

the worst part, our PCs wont be able to run this quality

Of course dont expect Iphone 3 to render these :P My point was the scalability. Cry engine 2 refused to run on a lower end hardware period. The only engine which seemed so scalable was the HL2 engine...

Scalability used to be a big thing years back when PC hardware was developing at break neck speed, but I guess any 2k video card should match X360's GPU

How do you guys like Cryengine 3 so much? Having seen Battlefield 3 videos, I find that way way better in terms of visuals & realism. Considering that crysis 2 was in dev for a long time, it got topped off by another gamer just 8 months after its release (considering bf3 releases in november)

the game only ever released in a super limited edition which sold for $1m per game. even at that time it was superior to cryengine and unreal 3 engine. tell ricky to send you a copy of it :p

In case you were satisfied with the pictures, here's a video. unbelievable stuff. think a Raedon 6990 will handle this? hehe

They were running this with 3 GTX 580s in tri SLI, so yeah I think the 6990 can handle this. Amazing stuff though.

all said and done i still feel cryengine is superior to this when it comes to exterior scenes with foilage which no other engine can match.

also everyone is forgetting 1 very important thing, the cryengine techdemo was all in realtime and the unreal techdemo is pre-rendered.

Oh well let us see how id's Tech 5 shapes up. We'll know when Rage is out.

Let us not forget before Crysis, there was Doom 3 and Quake 4 which made all the cards cry. :P

^ Oh yeah. id is coming up with something big after a long while. Really eager to see how that turns out. :D

I do feel the Cry Engine is better in terms of realism compared to the Unreal engine. This new video has a lot of eye candy effects, but it still just doesn't feel as good as the Cry Engine. I don't know how much of the name has to do with it - 'Un-real'. :P

later on one of the spokesperson said that with some optimization, he was sure they could get it running on a GTX500Ti(now the problem is, we dont know what he meant by GTX500 Ti)

If it's GTX560 Ti, then amazing, and stupid optimization work by Epic's guys..
