Some venice core o/c screen shots.....

deejay

Explorer

I did some preliminary o/cing of the venus 3000+.
max i could reach was 306htt with the default multiplier of 9 , giving a core speed of 2754.4 mhz.
The temps even at the speed was well under 50C.
at htt of 310 and 320 even the xp welcome screen was displayed but upon actual os loading to the desktop i got file corruption / missing errors. hence i stopped fearing another reload of xp , which is very time consuming for me.
I think my 2 year old ocz memory is the limiting factor here as it does not go very high due to it being low latency rams.
the above was achieved @ 5:6 (mem:fsb) clock divider.

effectively my ram was running at 255 mhz. (am myself surprised at this)
1 thing good about this is that if one has good and compatible rams rated at 275 mhz or above with low latencies of 2-2-2 .... then running it at ">" 275 mhz 1:1 will be easy.
well back to some more burn in and testing ........

Hey Deejay
Where did you get the Venice from m8
Its not arrived here as per my knowledge
You might have got it from US

And that Overclock is simply superb

Which Mobo are you using for the OC

DFI nf4 Ultra -D m/b.
Venice from newegg.
ps: I would not be using this at more than 2250 mhz (250 x9) on a day to day basis.

Great oc-ing deejay :D !
Venice looks very enticing !
Did you get the OEM or Retail Box ?

Moving this to OC n Modding section.. :P

DJ, thats a sweet OC.. but the thing i noticed is at 300HTT the Vcore is 1.6V and at 304/306 it is 1.76V!!! Is it ur board or ur CPU that allows such high Vcore values? On my winnie and A8N-E even when i set Vcore at 1.625V (max option available in BIOS) it shows us as 1.58V (and never goes beyond that) both in Asus Probe and CPU-Z. When I set Vcore to 1.6V in BIOS, it shows up as 1.565V!

Its good to see that ur 'old' memory is holding up really well at 255MHz!! Perhpas u cud try 275+ MHz 1:1 when u get ur new memory :D

My mistake actually. after 300 htt instead of incrementing the vcore from 110% of vcore to 113% i by mistake increased to 126% of vcore.
on the dfi the max vcore is 1.55V in the bios, but there is an option of increasing it in % in the bios (immediately below the vcore setting).
for e.g if you select vcore as 1.425V then select 110% in the next field the resulting vcore comes to 1.56 V((1.425*110) / 100).
and yes even on dfi there is some under reporting of Vcore in the bios.
This version of cpuz (1.28 ) is not fully compatible with nf4 ultra chipset it seems. my 512 (2x256) mb rams are shown as 1 GB (1024=512 x 2).
also the vcore reported by cpu-z were lower than what was reported in the bios !!!!
Yes , running this cpu @ 275 mhz fsb (HTT) with latencies of 2-2-2 (1:1 ratio, 1T) regularly , meaning on a day to day basis with stability, is very much possible. provided you have a good psu and rams.

Nice to hear about the various options in BIOS ;)

what PSU are u running ur rig on now? with X800XL n all ;)

BTW: i used my existing powersafe 500 watts psu for this. i used the existing 20 pin ATX connector and it is working beautifully....
I believe he had mentioned this earlier in the Post your rigs thread :D

Deejay some gaming benchies, and it will be great if you can compare with your old video card.

Lol am asking for too much, you dont have the time....

Wow, thats some OC, wondering what it tops at, well, will get to know once ur RAm arrives, but am also eager to know how good that x800 is? any insights on that?

whats the default clock speed of the 3000 venice. & can u tell me the price of the 3000 venice & the dfi board u got off newegg.

& some benchies of the x800xl would be great in d3, farcry, hl2, ut2004, 3dmark2k3, 2k5.

Here are some screenies of x800xl in 3dmark2001.
here is the result on everything at default values.
fsb=200, latency - cas 2-3-2-5, 1:1 , 1T

so i started to up the fsb gradually ....
finally stopped at fsb=245 @ 3-3-3 , 1:1, 1T

This (above) shows how much 3dmark2001 is dependent upon the fsb and cpu speed.
then i thought might as well test it @ raised fsb (HTT)
so raised the fsb to 290, mem:fsb clock divider of 5:6, and @ cas 3-3-3 , 1T

the above test was done multiple times (4) to confirm stability. not once was there any artifacts or instability.

the cpu temps were below 50 C throughout.
I will try with HTT 300 and above later tonight.
Till now i have not overclocked the gfx card.
there are many reasons for it.

1) Want to give it more time for breakin - in.

2) The card costs as much as the cpu and m/b combined.

3)I want to mod the card first. fit in the missing auxillary power connector (6 pin , pci-e cards). also i want a better cooling solution for it. the existing small copper h/s is too "risky" imho, for any serious o/c of the gfx card.
well anyway i will try some "mild" o/c of the gfx card and 300 HTT (effective cpu speed= 2.7Ghz) later tonight.

Deejay X800XL dont oc well, not worth it IMO. But with that kind of Horsepower its not really required, will be butter smooth in all the games with 4x AA and 8x AF.

The million dollar question which was the last ame you played actually :bleh:

well i had played farcry and hl2 ......when they were released.
normally i dont get time ....from playing pacman and chess :bleh:
