Hi guys,
I have bought a new PC with Windows7 ultimate installed. I have a 2mbps internet connection with 30gb limit.
Now , I have "Shaplus bandwidth meter " to show me my internet usage live.
I have noticed that something is eating my bandwidth a lot. Even when I'm doing nothing , it takes ~2mb / minute. Something is getting downloaded.
Just browsing webpages ( without any flash videos, etc) takes ~100mb for <1hr.
I tried monitoring in the Win7 resource monitor , but I can't find anything useful.
I have a 30-day latest kaspersky AV , so I don't think there is any spyware or malware yet. ( I have hardly used my PC).
I don't think updates will take so much either.

Please help.
Is there a software that can tell me which installed applications have used how much of my band width ?

Thanks in advance

You can try TCPView from Microsoft, it shows the active network connections and how much packets are sent/received by the current running apps. Although this won't record the bandwidth used by applications, but would give you a god idea which app is eating up your badwidht currently.

Kaspersky shows "network connections". and it shows ~4.5Gb in it's record , it my bandwidth meter shows close to 9GB.
I just switched on an posted this (now already 25mb gone).
@ivhere - I don't have a genuine OS and win update is disabled.

Thanks

EDIT : I'm using COMODO DRAGON browser. It looks like it's taking a lot. Yesterday , 1Gb incomming and 500mb outgoing.
Even if I were watching anything online , how come 500mb+ has been uploading ? Is this normal?
Will notusing the browser alone stop this or should I uninstall it?

check if you have any photos/pictures gadget in the sidebar. and if it is downloading pictures from an online location to display.

Try this

1. Start the Task Manager
2. Select the Performance tab
3. Click on the Resource Monitor button on the bottom right
4. Select the Network tab
5. In the Network tab the 'Processes with Internet Activity', here you can see the applications/programs consuming bandwidth.

@DigitalDude = No I don't have any of them.
@ayanavish - Trying firefox now. Will find out a let you know.
@muzux2 - That does the same job as "Resource monitor" right??
@flash23 - Been checking Resource monitor for a while now , but how do I fond out if anything is taking my bandwidth or not? They names are not familiar to me . Eg : I Have no idea what "avp.exe" is . I can't right click on it for properties.

Is there a way to see the Network activities for a whole day / yesterday in the resource monitor?

I have a doubt. I know high resolution pics/videos use more bandwidth that lower ones . So if I browse using a 2560x1440 monitor instead of a 720p screen , will accessing the same web pages consume more band width to display the info in 1440p resolution ??

Thanks

@GODMODE09 check the 'Processes with Internet Activity' here you can see the actual programs.
you are viewing 'Network Activity' which shows all the instances of the program consuming bandwidth.

eg if you have Firefox with two open tabs the you will see firefox twice in Network activity but only once in the Processes

The thing is it gets reset every minute or two , so I actually can't see how much anything is taking for 1hr or so.
It looks like Kaspersky2013 trial version and 'svhost' processes are using quite a lot.
I have been browsing , checking mails , reading articles online and posting here today (have used the PC for ~ 8hr+ ) but have'nt watched any videos or downloaded anything at all. It has touched 500MB ( according to bandwidth meter).
Is this normal ?

Thanks a lot guys.

PS : Can't find a way to make the above screen shot bigger. Using a 1080p monitor.

Hi,
Another software is kingsoft pc doctor.here we can see all the processes that are connected to internet and we can disable it if we wanted to.we can also see the network usage sorted by time, date, week etc.i also use Kaspersky and it uploads a lot.:)

Just now noticed that Kaspersky has downloaded 135mb and uploaded 10MB so far for today.

Any idea how I could solve this?

Download a firewall like Comodo . Turn of the internet and install it. After installation open the application's control center and select "Define a new blocked application" -> Browse and select Kaspersky Anti virus or any other software you wish to block from the internet. You can take it out of block list anytime you wish. You can use the "block all" mode to block all applications from accessing the internet(if you think somebody is accessing your computer through the internet).

You should also put all your software including windows 7 to "Let me know when updates are available/Manual Update", so they dont download updates in the background

Hi guys
I'm sorry. I was using "Shia bandwidth meter" to check internet usage and just now found out that it has been showing wrong info. INstaled another software and it shows 20mb consumption whereas Shia BWM is showing 120MB.
It was working fine untill last month. Thanks for trying to help. Everything is working fine now :)

That is why it is always good to use own head instead of softwares :p
