Hi Guys,

Today, a call came to my landline and there was a female on the phone who told my wife she called frm MTNL and that she asked her questions like what is your name, what is your cell no and what is ur mail id, upon asking she told my wife that there were many complaints in my area and that wanted to make sure that my net was working.

I wonder why would they need info like name, cell no and mail id jus to figure out if my net was working fine.

just a suggestion :

if you have the caller's number [CID] then try to find out if it belongs to MTNL office

And / Or

call that number ; find out who called your home & what they do with the details

chillll!!!

if same lady calls again pretending from mtnl then first ask her who are you and why you need any personal info apart from tel no.

Tell you wife to first inquire about the person and if found anything fishy just refuse the same.

& do install a CID box atleast--wont cost you more than 100bucks max & will save you from such calls by tracing the same. :)

hey whats this CID box ?

caller id box or what

Nothing to worry about, I have received that call too, although i am on BSNL. Nothing exceptional although i am surprised that she asked for email ID.

see it depends on a size. Cheapest cheap can be found in local shop for 100 bucks with some 10 calls memory.

rest if you want a pro then it will cost above 300bucks upto 2k

oh i never knew that cheaper ones with low memory come

There is no need for anyone from MTNL to ask for those details. They already ask for what they need when you apply for a connection.
Do not give out any information to anyone about anything especially on the phone if you cannot verify the other person's identity.
The info asked may seem useless/unimportant to you but it can prove harmful to you if it falls in the wrong hands. I am not trying to scare anyone but please be careful about what you say to any unknown sweet talking person on the phone.

What I am hinting at.

what i think is that mtnl wouldnt be so stupid to call their own customers and ask for the info they already get when a customer registers with them..

or am my thinking wrong?

exactly thats the point to think of

me using mtnl for past 20yrs bt never ever got any call asking for details or even what plan i'm using.

theres something fishy with vishalk situation.

Anyways hope he doesnt fall in any trouble disclosing his personal info. It may possibly some telemarketing call. People have turned to DND services on cellphones so may be now these marketing idiots have found another way to irritate us.:(

fishy fishy fishy fishy

some marketing gimmicks, may be new Net Service Provider soon launch in your area/city.

Anyone who calls you for any information (even if it just for you name, email ID), always ask for a number that you can call them back at. If they don't give it, you know it's fishy.

ok here's the catch, same call today, i picked up, got the caller id done coz all calls diverted to me cell phone, the only thing i get is call no number, some crap but this time i gave em a bit of myself and refussed any info unless they proove to be calling from mtnl mumbai, further i called the call center and enquired about if they been calling customers and they said no they havent been doing so.

thats it!

as i said previously mtnl never ever calls you except if your line id dead or unless you've reg any complaint about tel line.

so act smartly and trace the culprit. I doubt its something more than a marketing gimmick.

Hi,

I have spoken to my friend who knows some ppl in high places in mtnl at prabhadevi and they gonna figure out who called me for such info yesterday, btw that female never sounded like mtnl coz she wassnt that typical mtnl ones who barely speak english, she spoke english and hindi both.

Caller ID active and working, am waiting for em to try call me again
