One of my friend has got a Sony Bravia KDL46SL140 from US. I checked the specs & it supports only ATSC & NTSC colour system. Hence B/W picture when connected to his local cable connection. Any idea for converter which can covert the signals from PAL to NTSC OR what can be done in this case?

well tell him to get a avermedia external tv tuner card, which outputs via VGA .so in that way no pal or ntsc doesnt come in the equation.
that was the same solution i gave to my uncle friend who bought a mitsubishi tv from US

there are converter availiable at lammy. but they are expensive check them

really don't understand i brought my tv in 2002, it support everything, what nowdays they don't built multisystem?

How much does this cost? Is the procedure to set it up easy enough? Any loss in picture quality? Also my friend has a Dish TV connection & not the cable line as I mentioned earlier.

Honestly, it was hard for me to believe when he told me it only supports NTSC. I mean it's a freaking Sony Bravia & this the same company which used to have multi-system TV's spread all over the place. Then I check out the specs & found it didn't have any support for PAL.

well the aver media as composite, svideo inputs, component etc so it will work with dish tv,big tv ,TS+ etc and yes it is easy to setup,it also has a some good deinterlacing, which sony bravia engine arent that good at.well the cost is around 6k,a while back.they are the best.

there are similar product from other companies like pixelview which starts at 2.3k not sure how the video quality is.

^Thanks for the heads up buddy. Can you tell me exactly how this setup will work out? I mean the connection part of it. Also is this the AverMedia box you're talking about AVerMedia - TVBox 9 External Standalone TV Tuner, TV Box, TVBox, External TV Tuner, TV Tuner, TV Tuners, External TV Tuners, External Standalone, External TV Box

I just looked up for the TV's specs again & I couldn't find any sign of a VGA port being present on it. Will it still work?

You would have to get a PAL TO NTSC convertor. I think it should cost anything within 5k. You will definitely get one at Lammy. There will be a little bit of picture degradation coz of the conversion. But it all depends on the quality of the converter.

None of the TV's on the US support PAL and all the TV's there are region specific. You would wonder why not many people prefer LCD's from the US. You can get LCD's at throw away prices as compared to LCD prices in India. I have also heard that can convert the NTSC / PAL thing internally using some modification but i am not sure, recommend you to use just a convertor.

well saw the specs the TV and it does have a VGA input, and this tv also has a HDMI PC input, which means u can get a DVI version AVerMedia MPD-Global - AVerTV DVI Box9 of aver media and use a DVI to HDMI convertor.

well as far as the connection part let say u are using BIG tv or Tata SKY+ set top box which has component out,u will need to connect the output from that to the aver media and which it turns outputs that VIA vga or DVI/HDMI to the sony lcd,and in the sony settings u will need to choose the input has PC VGA or PC HDMI,the PC inputs also have audio IN so u will get audio.
the sony lcd will still apply its images processing.

@chaos reliance Big tv doesnt have HDMI although the IPTV has HDMI not sure if it has taken of,no ADS and i believe its still in BETA. and Tata sky+ doesnt have HDMI output and they both still output in PAL format.
