the writer is 1 year old.. problem is that the tray doesnt open when eject is pressed or command given from desktop... i have to use d emergency pin hole to eject it...then once dvd is inserted the tray comes out ..it doent go in.. forcibly,.. i have 2 hold the tray so that it doesnt come out.. then d dvd is also not read d first time,.. it takes time...
solution???
 
I also had the same problem with my lg dvd-rom.

When I asked around for repairing it, the people said that it will cost almost the same as the price of a new one. So I bough a new one.
 
Keep a cd inside always. This doesn't solve the problem but will eject the drive with one push in the emergency hole.
 
it is the problem of the slide in switch,which releases the lock to eject/close wtih the eject/close motor drive.Sometime it can be fixed by taking apart the part & cleaning with the solution/reapplying the grease etc.Many optical drives have this problem.
Does a heavy knock on the top of the drive case ejects the disc ?
 
plz try to open the drive & clean all moving parts with the solution,also grease the eject portion.Also double check does the eject caddy belt is tight or not,
 
i have a sony dru-820A dvd rw i have exactly the same problem...

i think since your's a year old it might be under warranty ......chk it
 
As per my experience with my SONY DRU 800A, it's sign that your writer soon today, tomorrow or any time refuse to work. Time to think/search for new drive.

thats not a big issue, just open you drive an check if the switch is damaged or broken. You can easily fix it.
my LG drive which is 3 yrs old got some problem, it was not shown in the BIOS screen. Instead of throwing it i opened it and repaired it myself. Some resistors were damaged.
 
this is genetic problem with belt driven optical drives.So check optical drives with gear driven mechanism.I have a sony cdrw with no rubber belt only gears.its 5 and half year old and no problem.My sony dvd rw dead with same problem.But my lg dvd writer has belt driven mechanism its new so for now it works fine.
 
Same prob here with a 3 year old Lite-On drive....used to open normally if a cd was in it but now i have to use the emergency eject to get it to open. Drive working fine otherwise.....but its suddenly got loud...lots of noise when reading cds!!

I solved the problem i had with mine by always keeping a dvd inside all the time, else i had to use your same method of using a pin in the emergency hole to open the tray.

My suggestion is to get a new one as it costs just around 1k right now. There is no foolproof or guaranteed way of fixing the problem in a cost worthy way.
