Hi, I have this Sony MHC-RV22 Hi-Fi system with 2600W PMPO which i bought about 2 years back. Now for a couple of months it has stopped reading any kind of CDs (mp3/VCD/audio CD).

When i took it to the local Sony service center, he says the lens must be damaged and it will cost 1200/- plus 500/- servicing charges so total of 1700/-.

Please help me regarding the quoted price. Does the lens cost 1200/-?
 
Yes. The authorised service centre will charge that much for a lens. Any other service centre would charge less for the same lens (around 800 or 900 bucks) but you'd not be sure of the quality. Otherwise also, there is no assurance of the quality as the service centre would give a 1 months warranty on the so-called authorised lens !!!

I have the same problem with my Philips DVD player and am waiting to change the lens on the same.
