IN THE US, Sony is offering to buy old Dell laptops for $500 in a new trade-in promotion.
The promotion is designed to take market share from Dell and increase Sony’s market presence.
Sony’ Vaio unit is making the push through the end of the first quarter and is paying more than $200 more over and above what the company offers for laptops from other companies. The outfit is also offering lots of other incentives for its channel partners in a bid to sink Dell.
It seems Sony's marketing mandarins at Sony are starting to see Dell, which has had disappointing six months, as a target.
