After one year of introducing the SmartWatch MN2 , Sony has unveiled its new version dubbed SmartWatch 2 SW2. The SmartWatch SW2 serves as a wearable second display for your Android smartphone.

The SmartWatch 2 comes with upgraded 1.6 inch LCD display with 220 x 176 resolution. It also gets IP57 certification which means it is splash proof and dust resistant. Design wise it is quite similar to the original one, but with bigger round power button like the new Xperia lineup. It also has capacitive buttons below the touch-screen. It uses swappable wrist bands like the original SmartWatch and a stainless steel wristband is also included in the kit.

The SmartWatch 2 uses NFC for one-touch pairing and connects to Android smartphones using Bluetooth 3.0. Battery life also seems to be improved as Sony says it will last 3-4 days even with screen on with normal usage.

Functionality includes :-
  • Handle your calls by a simple touch of your wrist
  • Take a photo remotely from your SmartWatch, using a smart camera app
  • Control your presentations remotely using Presentation Pal
  • Taking a run or on the bike? Select a mapping app on SmartWatch to check your route with a quick glance at your wrist
  • Read previously downloaded e-mails when not connected to your phone
  • Use lifestyle apps like Runtastic to map and instantly track your fitness activities on the go
  • Quickly and easily adjust the tracks and volume on your music player, without ever taking your phone from your pocket

The SmartWatch 2 SW2 will be launched in September 2013 worldwide, pricing is not yet announced.

When I read this blog, the only thing I could think of was, a new category which is being release by a manufacturer and nobody showing any interest until Apple comes out with its Iwatch or whatever they end up calling it.

^ Yep. The usual hysteria should follow.

As for the watch, seems to be bland in design a bit?
Shouldve made em more jazzier than only be bringing them out in good ol' classic models.

It ll be called as an iwatch. They have filed patent for the name in many countries.

I have a suggestion. You should provide some reading material here.
Coming into the thread and all one finds is a redirecting post/link, it really feels odd. Cuz I can simply google the stuff right from the main page itself to save time otherwise.

Honest to god, I looked around for the domain iwatch.com and was joking with a friend last year that whoever know the url would make a quick bug once apple is in to purchase the rights.

Apple would not buy, they will just sue you and get the domain. :P
