Dear ppl,

Hope i get help on this 1 .

I have a 2 year old Laptop that I got from US model VPCEB15FM (I3 Windows, 7 Home - 64 Bit ) .

It was all ok , until i had kept it not used it for 1 month , after which i am experiencing problems.

Now when i start the laptop it takes ages to boot *(say 30-35 minutes) and then very very very slow to respond after it has booted up.

The HDD light remains steadily lit during the boot and also regularly.

The actions I have taken after i read some miscellaneous help from the web :

1. Removed the search indexing
2, Defragged the Drive / Chkdsk for errors (No errors on HDD) - HDD Seems to be ok !!!
3. Disabled all the services/startup except for the MS services
4. Safe Mode boot up(Still slow)
5.*Antivirus scans on entire machine (COMODO)
6. Prayed in front of the Machine to not die on me...

I can't come up with any other resolutions until unless if anyone of yu can help me ..I don't have the guarantee and my last to last resort will be replace the HDD which i ll have to buy.

And the second last of course will be to FORMAT the entire machine (Data backup already taken,, though it took the entire Gandhi Jayanti day for me )

Thanks and appreciate all yur help ,, just a bit desperate,,

Peace

Ja Mein Fuehrer, HD Tune Pro would be good, but HD Tune free edition would also do. You don't need to benchmark this disk, just check the Health(SMART) and run a error scan. Most probably you will see in the SMART analysis that the disk is kaputt.

Get HD Tune here

Thanks ivhere and axis meister for your response.

I tried HD Tune and ran a scan to see the status and i am still good with the HDD .

It doesn't show anything bad.

Sony VPCE series is having problems with the main chip (5x or 6x series). you are lucky because the problem is arising after 2 years, lot of iCore laptops fail 'immediately' after warranty is over. iCore laptops fail because of the chips design by intel the main chip controls function of north bridge, south bridge and also graphics(in some if it does not have discrete graphic chip) integrated in 'one single chip' and the best part is no thermal heat sink or cooling fan is provided in most laptops, imagine the thermal stress the chip takes. intel and OEM manufacturers are taking customers for royal ride.

the solution is to get laptop serviced for dust and thermal paste, if it does not help get the chip replaced by a professional service center.
