MAKER OF exploding batteries, Sony, is planning to release an online video download service next year.
According to MacWorld, the service will allow users to download movies via a computer and store them on MemoryStick memory cards for viewing on the PSP.
Sony boffins are also developing a service that would allow direct downloads to the PSP. It is hoped that the sticking of movies onto the PSP will help sales of the game console which has been flagging a bit lately. It would also give Sony a weapon to fight Apple's iTunes.
No word on price for it, but if the PS3 is anything to go by, Sony will charge $500 for a film, only release ten copies of each movie and fights will break out in the downloading queues.
