Is anything contained within the section below the transparent strip, the one that says xperia? Because if not they could have made the damn thing much shorter right? ~5mm i'm assuming?

That bar contains Buttons to Home, Menu and Back ...

Phone loooks good
<

Especially Xperia P is priced Right at Galaxy R and S Advance(When it comes)

Its gonna be a tough competetion!

I don't see anything there. Do they light up when touched or something? And besides, with ICS aren't those functions supposed to be on-screen soft-buttons? Of course manufacturer dependent.

Phones do look awesome though. Sony's always led in the design dept. and still somewhat behind comparatively with specs.

Edit: Just got some more information. From http://www.gsmarena....eview-729p2.php :

"A strip of transparent plastic at the bottom ... this element also holds the antenna... Below the screen, there are three tiny dots marking the three capacitive keys (Back, Home and Menu). The actual icons are within the transparent strip, so you might try to push those instead (like we did). It takes a while to get used to that."

Some pics (of the U):

What's unbelievable is that they can't launch the damn things with ICS, when kids are modding ancient phones with well-working ICS roms. Dunno how much R&D time it takes these big name companies to do the same.

ICS update will start rolling out in a month for the whole 2011 Xperia range and Xperia S. The Xperia P and U would launch with ICS most likely as they will hit stores in end April - early May.

Oh my
<

That pricing looks very very competitive. As it's Sony, thought the Xperia S will be slightly more, but this is sweet pricing. Other than the slightly dated S3 Snapdragon, everything else in the phone is amazing. If the street price is something like 28k, great value.

Xperia P also looks better than all other mid range devices. Great job Sony.

Just want ICS rolled out soon. Hope in 2 months after launch Xperia U hits 15k

The 8GB storage is confirmed right?

All of them should have been Playstation Certified.

When's the launch?

@compaddict

Yes 8 GB is confirmed.

2GB is reserved for the system, rest is user accessible.

The Xperia S will launch by the end of this month or early april, U and P should lanch sometime early May. Or even late April but that doesn't seem very likely at the moment.

Yeah, the U may be the 'cheapest' of the three, but non-expandable storage will kill it for many. It's not really hard to fill even 32gb..

Very strange of them not to have micro-sd slots. I thought they got over their crap when they finally switched from m2 to microsd. Sony's always had to do something wrong with otherwise awesome handsets. Maybe they thought pulling an 'apple' would be cool this time...

@comp@ddict

You could take a look at the pepper then. The same phone you posted about here. It will have 8 GB Internal storage like the U but also have a microSD slot for expanding memory further. It will be a little more expensive though MRP 19990. Its a Neo V replacement with a 3.7 inch screen and NFC is included as well.

Street price should be about 18.5k.

I agree it's not a good trend. The same is the case with HTC One series phones. The cameras are getting better and better, with 1080p recording, high quality photos and music, it's easy to fill 32 gb storage. Now the manufacturers maybe pushing for cloud based storage, at least it looks like with HTC where they're offering 25gb in dropbox with new sense 4.0. For us in India, it's not very practical since we don't even have decent 3g plans yet.

However, I think it's got to do with the manufacturers trying to pack in as much hardware as possible and still trying to make the device as thin as possible.

Sony were always douchebags right back from the atrac3 days. always pushing their proprietary stuff to make more money. They kinda improved from the k850 onwards with microsd support, but now that they broke up with mr. ericsson looks like they had to show a bit of their old colours.

the galaxy sII is probably slimmer, and with 32gb onboard it still has a card slot. no excuse for sony.

p.s. before anyone starts a flamewar with me, i always have and probably always use se/sony phones!

currently on a zylo and xperia play. just hate their policies.

Hot off the presses: http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_pepper_goes_official_is_the_sony_xperia_sola-news-3970.php

if this has a microsd slot it will be killer. floating touch!
