There was a thread on this topic a while back but the discussion was specifically about whether Indian outlets of certain laptop brands honour the international
warranty. My question is the very reverse of that.

I'm looking to buy a netbook sometime next month ( Jan '12 ) and will be taking it with me when I move to either Singapore or Japan ( not confirmed which yet ) in
August '12. Obviously I won't be able to avail the full local warranty so I was looking for a brand which provides international warranty and honours it in
Singapore/Japan.

I have heard horror stories about HP not honouring international warranty but I'm not sure if that only applies to HP India. Dell and Sony are other brands who I've
heard , offer international warranty . I'm more inclined towards Sony since they offer it free on all vaio laptops.

So I'm looking for input from you guys regarding international warranty and which brand netbook I should get so that I can avail the same in Singapore or Japan.

Thanks in advance :)

Avoid Dell if you are buying from abroad. They dont provide international warranty by default. They ask for 14000/- to transfer warranty to India, absolute loot. One of my friends bought a Dell laptop from Dubai even after me repeatedly telling him not to. Even the price was almost the same in Dubai as in India.(Not that it matters to you though, since you are purchasing it here). Now after coming here, his laptop is dead. (Not fixable without sending to center, simply refuses to turn on). Dell India simply refuses to service it without transferring warranty to India and for that they asked 14000/-. Now he is heavily regretting his decision to buy a Dell. His parents refuse to pay 14k for service. He has spent close to 45k and now has a dead laptop lying around. I hope you got the point :P .

I am not sure if this has happened to anyone else, but i am just saying what happened to my friend. If anybody else's experience is contrasting to his, then you may consider that.

All other manufacturers except Dell offer proper international warranty afaik.

Tag transfer is not that much costly but you have to do it before submitting any issue to service Center.

Dell offers global tag transfer to almost all countries in the world. Hence if u buy a Dell anywhere, you can transfer the warranty to the country you are moving to without any hassles. However, note that this applies to premium warranty only not the general carry in service. The premium can be a 1 year, 2 year or 3 year NBD. So if you are buying better service from Dell, you can be assured there wont be any problems anywhere you go. :)

I bought my Dell Studio with 4 year NBD warranty and the tag transfer took 15 days and now i can go for service in India :)

Sony offers international warranty in India. In UK, they used to provide international warranty but only specific to EU. Similarly, check if Sony India provides APAC warranty or global. So Sony provides International but Dell provides global warranty.

HP UK had the same issue as being specific to only particular regions.

Apple has global warranty as well, even with the base warranty package.

I would go for Dell anyway for Service and Warranty...Moreover, Dell offers in Home service whereas all other offer only Carry-in :)

@Clown_abhi

Sony also provides onsite service in the metro cities and other big cities across India free of cost with certain models. :)

@topic

Yes the Vaio International warranty will be honored by Sony Japan/Sony Singapore. No issues with that.
