Sony's Offering:

Sony Electronics' version of the single layer Blu-ray media has Sony's AccuCORE technology, which was first integrated into recordable DVD media over a year ago, has been re-engineered for Blu-ray Discs to deliver enhanced reliability and durability. Its major benefits include the following:

* Archival Reliability - special material design that prevents data and image corruption and deterioration to ensure quality playback;
* Stable Writing - a uniform and precise cover layer that reduces fluctuation as the disc spins

Write Speed:
Currently the media is rated at 2X and will provide data transfer rates of up to 72Mb/sec,making it suitable for high-definition video recording and data storage applications.

In addition to media, Sony intends to expand the market for its Blu-ray media by offering a Blu-ray Disc player and internal drives for their VAIO desktop and notebook computers.

when the rewritable cds were introduced here even they were like a grand each.. but well you`d first buy a blu-ray drive !! that would be over the roof!

cmmon after itlaunch atlest the 4.7gb rates will further come down........as they did for 700mb.......when 4gb ones were launch

it was pathetic earlier andd is still pathetic knew bout the price months ago and couldnt stop laughing
@chic o.0 never knew Rw cds costed tht much!!!!

^^ My uncle first bought a 4x HP CD-RW for 16k ;)

Hope that clears things out a bit.

In another 3 years, it'll be just set up right...:D

OMFG the first RW 4x i got was for some 450 bux (i dont remember the brand name properly) at tht time but the cd worked for 7 months properly used to write my school projects on it :D

btw can u tell me when was this price 16k actually was?

25 GB for 20 dollars.... that is 900/-....

put that on 7 DVD+Rs, it will be less than 80/-......

Go figure.....

PS: There are no such High def movies available that you need to worry abt putting the whole move on one disc.

He is talking about the drive.. not the media.. I still remember dreaming about owning a CDRW drive when they were for 20K in India..
Even then lite-on were the cheapest in US.

i saw 1 chip magazine which mentions...the first cd writer made was of 1X speed........and it was sold for 149000$.....no idea which issue but it was somwhere of 1999

oops i thought he was talking bout the media since media was in discusion lol neways tht seems pricy maybe different people charged differently for the writers, i got my first LG cd writer 12x speed in 2001 for 6k (not india ofcourse) :)

The 2X Creative CD rom drive I picked up in 93' cost about Rs. 25 K Sri Lankan. or about 20 INR.

Same thing here. Give it some time to drop.
