PC Peripherals Sound card vs. software that enhances sound???

Hey,
I just took the Roccat Kave Headphones...
I donot feel a very big difference between these and my Microsoft LX-3000.
Ofcourse they are much better, but the overall sound Quality is low...

I am not using a soundcard...
I am using UD7 onboard sound...
When I went to the X-Fi site: Creative X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity - Redefine your audio with this revolutionary sound technology
They were showing how the sound was before the sound card and after.

But When I am listening to the difference, I am using the same onboard sound card!...
So that sound enhancement on the site was a software enhancement...

So I wanted to ask which Sound enhancing softwares are available that can give a great 3D effect [My headphones are True 5.1 ...]

Plz HELP...
I cannot buy a sound card at least for 6 months now...
 
Pls check following things - one of this may be hampering your enjoyment
Are you listening songs using Kaves, then don't expect much change from LX3000 to Kave
Movies you are watching are encoded for six channels? If no you will be not able to experience true surround sound.
Use different settings in your Kave controller - changing nob positions for centre,front,rear & sub while playing movies/games etc.

About the X-Fi site, either they r fooling us, or software that enhancement is possible...
 
[strike]is the sound settings in your windows set to 5.1?

the demo seemed to use virtual headphone spatialization. If you have installed cccp codec pack or any other codec pack that installs ffdshow audio decoder, there is an option in the mixer tab (in ffdshow audio decoder settings). set it to "virtual headphone spatialization" while a movie is playing and you can get the same effect that the x-fi site was giving in their demo.
