Sound card with SPDIF/Optical for under 3k ?

Need to replace my XFI. Just today I swapped the XFI with the small Bernstein audio module that came with the DFI and was absolutely stunned by the quality of its SPDIF output (COAX to Z5500, PL2 enabled). It actually sounded better then the 6ch Direct I was using till now on my XFI. So I think any Value card with SPDIF/Optical will be best suited for me.

Bernstein audio adopts Realtek ALC885 high definition codec. It is certified by Microsoft Vista Premium. In addition, ALC885 features a DAC SNR of 106dB and ADC SNR of 101dB. Then, the codec also supports sampling at highest 192 KHz, 10 DAC channels, 3 Stereo ADC channels (7.1 + 2 channels) and 24bit PCM. Besides, it provides “Full-rate Lossless Content Protection Codecâ€, which's able to decrypt Content Protection for HD-DVD in the future, if not; the sound quality of DVD will be a step lower than the standard.

PS I am not a audiophile by any means, but I did notice a bit of difference.

Also a bit OT, my center channel isnt working anymore :(, need a RMA, does anyone know the email address of whom at Logitech I should be contacting.
 
Thinking of sticking to this for a while, but I need better.

Any Idea how much will the DX cost in Taipei, Taiwan ?. Have a friend going there next week. ;)
 
Compare apples to apples... try the spdif out of the xfi first :P. Also enable bitperfect mode in audio creation mode. Plus use kernel streaming.

The creative external consoles for x-fi costs you a lil over 100$ IIRC. Less than a year ago i bought a third party I/O module for cheap for my x-fi xtreme music to use my PS3's optical output. It has optical input/output and coaxial input/output.. I will be putting it for sale in the market today or tomorrow. But if you are interested PM me.
