PC Peripherals Sound Card

I'm looking to step up from my current onboard audio to a decent sound card. I'm ready to spend around 1500, what could my options be?

I'm using a pair of JVC HA-RX700 and Creative Inspire 2.1 speakers. The sound on my laptop is way louder and the bass has a greater thump. So, I'm guessing an entry level card would help me out.

Advantage is it would work with your laptop as well, so will be best of both worlds or rather, computers

Asus Xonar DG offers good value for money (atleast for Headphones due to onboard headphone amp) if you prefer sound card..
