Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit edition

he installed windows 7 recently, original, updated, and apparently, the disk installed all the drivers for the system.but, there is no sound from the speakers,or the front panel jack.he downloaded the drivers for vista, from the site, release date-2010/06/08.
the installation completes, but, there is no change.what is the issue?how to fix it?
thanks

thanks
yes,the sound card worked properly using xp.and the drivers are for 32 bit windows itself.i checked in device manager and there are no yellow question marks(isnt that for devices without drivers,i guess?).hardware issue then?

^^ Click on the speaker icon in the taskbar of windows7. Next click on the "Mixer", next click on the device tab to see if the required sound card is selected. Alternately check device manager if the sound card is enabled and if it is working properly.

it is.i was looking at the ports and i see that the jack for the mic(pink one) has a black coating in it.like its been charred or something.ie,inside the jack.so,i guess its been shorted or burnt or something?

^^ if thats the thing then it must not work under XP, is it the onboard one. Is it from realtek or some other vendor.

xp was used a bit back.been running windows 7 for a while.he never checked the audio till yesterday.it runs nearly 24-7,and this fellow is not particularly careful with his system.

the audio is from realtek-ALC880

In that case there is a chance that your audio chip have blown. Try a linux live cd and check if sound is heard from the onboard audio chipsets. Else its time to go for shopping ;)
