Space Scene Tutorial Part 1: Stars
This is the first Part Of The Space Scene Tutorials which i wish to write.
By the end of this part, you will learn how to create a starry background for placing your planets, nebulas and comets on.
First of all, here are a few things you need to do.
1. Sit with a cool mind.
2. Keep a glass of chilled Softdrink like Sprite Ice next to you and keep sipping it at regular intervals.
3. Put on some Music of your choice.
4. Sit in a comfortable position so as to keep yourself from strain.
5. Donot chat on messenger or do multi-tasking while creating the Space Scene Stars to avoid any unwanted distractions.
Now, open Adobe Photoshop CS/CS2.
1. Create a new image of the resolution which you wish to keep your wallpaper or scene. I have taken it to be 1024x768.
2. Use a transparent image template.
3. Goto Edit->Fill and fill the image with Black color.
4. Next, set the Background to Black and Foreground to White.
5. Rename the Default Background Layer to Star Field.
6. Keeping the Star Field Layer Selected, goto Filter->Noise->Add Noise.
7. Set the Amount somewhere in between 6 and 18 as per the amount of stars required. I have used 12.
8. Set the Distribution to Gaussian.
9. Check Monochromatic.
10. Click Adjustments->Levels.
11. Adjust the Input Levels to 0,0.4 and 110 as per the amount of Stars required. Lowering the last field will increase the number of visible Stars.
12. Click on Layer->New Layer.
13. Rename it to StarClouds.
14. Click on Filter->Render->Clouds.
15. After this your image should look like the screenshot below.
Please note: Since Clouds are rendered randomly, the effects may vary slightly.
16. Change the Fill of the Layer to 80% and Opacity to 30% depending upon the number of stars or clouds you wish to keep in your background.
Experiment with these values to get varied results.
17. Select the Star Field Layer and Click on Layer->New Adjustment Layer->Hue/Saturation.
Please note, the screenshot has the StarClouds layer selected. BUT we need to select the Star Field Layer.
18. Keep the Default settings for this Layer.
19. Adjust the Hue, Saturation, Brightness according to the color of the Light Source you wish to adapt in the Final Space
Scene Background.
20. Save the PSD for later use to add Planets, Moons, Nebulas Etc.
Hope you enjoyed the Tutorial and are happy with the results so far.
