Just for the info, guys, can u tell me which wud be a good matching bookshelf/floorstaning speakers to go with the Marantz PM4001? Btw, is the 2x30 watts output enuf for a decent size room? I presume this is only a 2 channel amp.. which one wud be a better amp for a surround setup? N it wud b gr8 if u can mention the price as well..:)

Lets say, arnd 20-25k... the lesser, the better btw...:P

Btw, is Norge a good choice for the amp? Wud be gr8 if i can wrap it up within 20k..:P (speakers included) So pls suggest some combos...:) Also, can i get some good Floorstanders in this price range? :)

Alright, it seems the Norge 2060 suits my needs..its got 80+80 watts output...and at 6.7-7k its a steal..i'm definitely shortlisting this unit, moreover, evn AV Max rates it very good.. But i'll only put in my money after i get a demo..

Also, will check other brands in the 10k range...

As for the speakers, pls suggest some matching speakers. Considering tht i may be willing to spend 20 k on the system, tht leaves like 13k after the 7k for the amp... So can i get decent floorstanders for 13k or so? :)

bookshelves are there from 8k i think, rio got his wharfedales at around that price and floorstanders chaos got his jamos s408 for around 15k

^ I wud prefer floorstanders over bookshelves(who wudnt..lol.)... So any recommendations tht'll squeeze in 13k?? :P (i'm seriously on a tight budget)

Also, can ne1 tell me, where can i get to take a look at Wharfedales in Mumbai?

Can i get a decent pair of wharfedale floorstanders in this range? :)

at 13k, you prob want to look at the wharfdales... i auditioned some of the bookshelf models before, but didn't like the sound... ended up spending more (a lot more) on a pair of B&W 805... but nothing else comes close to the wharfdales for budget bookshelves...

^^Hm... now that one is interesting :P. What are you driving them by? I auditioned an 805 with a musical fidelity integrated... found them a bit too forward sounding for my tastes.

Consider the Tannoy Mercury Custom F1's, awesome bookshelves for ~ 8k!

As for floorstanders, you'll probably be able to squeeze in the Jamo S406 (@ bottle, 408's are stopped).

nothing too fancy.. i use an Arcam A32 to drive the 805.. warm and natural sounding.. tested with a classe setup but that's a little out of my league ;)

Umm..i kinda prefer a floorstander...:P Though I dont want to allocate any more cash, i may just end up paying a lil bit more if i dont get good floorstanders in 13k. :P

The cheapest decent floorstander u'll get is the Diamond 8.4 for 19k or thereabouts.

Cud u pls tell me the power ratings of these Tannoy Mercury F1?

Also, about the JAmo S406, will it be a good match for the Norge 2060 (80x2 w) ? I wud like something which the Norge can drive properly without feeling underpowered.

Also, r thr any wharfedale floorstanders tht can be squeezed in 13k?

sell ur p990 and increase ur budget... like that great Man said.." spkrz are more important than mobile phone" (guess who ) :P :P

:muahaha: No way....:bleh: I'll try to squeeze it in 13k...but no way am i going to part with my P990i...

Okay, i just found tht the Tannoy Mercury Custom F1 has a power handling range of 10-70 watts max n the impedance is 8 Ohms..so it doesnt match the power rating of the Norge 2060 (80+80 w) @ 4 Ohms..I dont want to blow my speakers..:( So can ne1 suggest a good matching speaker for this amp?

M ready to consider Bookshelves too i think..:(

^^Doesnt matter... speakers will never be blown as that amp is 80W@4 ohms. Hence it'll be roughly 40W at 8 ohms. The tannoys are good entry level speakers, so are the wharfs. The jamo s406 is something I'd not recommend.

norge+WHARFDALES GOOD COMBO BEEN CHECKING THRU MANY FORUMS ITS REALLY GOOD IN SOUND OUTPUT BE BE CLEAR BEFORE CHOOSING ONE HEY RYAN EVEN I HAD SAME CONFUSION BUT GOT IT CLEARED WHEN I WENT TO CHAOS PLACE

Can u explain a lil bit...The spec sheet says 80+80 watts @ 4 ohms... so doesnt it make a 160watt total output ? :S
Also, the tannoy Mercury F1 spec sheet says tht it can handle 10-70 watts amp power..Now is tht for both the speakers together or individually?

I'd once read somewhr tht one shud always buy speakers n amp with the same impedance rating.
And since u r saying tht the tannoys will operate at 40w@ 8 ohms, what r the disadvantages of using such a setup...will tht cause low output from the speakers?

I hope u'll not mind the noobish Q's...(Archi guy here...:P )

Any matching Wharfedale u wud recommend for this amp? :)
