Speed up your connection in Windows XP
By default, the packet scheduler limits the system to 20% of the bandwidth of a connection, to increase bandwidth :

1-Open Run dialog box from Start menu.
2- Type “gpedit.msc†and press Ok.
3- When Group Policy run, go to Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > Qos Packet Schedule
4- in right side, right click on Limit reseivable bandwidth and select Properties.
5- In Setting tab under Limit reservable bandwidth section select Enabeled .
6- instead of 20 type 0 (zero) and then click ok, and close Group Policy.
7- Now , go to Network connection and right click on your connection and select Properties.
8- Go to Networking tab and cheek Qos Packet Scheduler to be ticked.
9- Restart your PC

Hope It works for u guyz , works for me !
BTW This can be done only in win xp professional !

systematic anamoly,

Thanks , I am having XP and was able to do the changes in group policy but in network connection properties I was unable to do any changes.

7- Now , go to Network connection and right click on your connection and select Properties.

8- Go to Networking tab and cheek Qos Packet Scheduler to be ticked.

I was unable to do this

reached qos packet but there's nothing on right, its blank, had tried this earlier but after sp2 have'nt so are you using sp2 ?

Y cant you just go and uncheck the box next to qos pack schedule in your lan properties? Isn't that the easiest way to do it... although this does improve ur speed to a very small extent.

use tweak ui its easy from that to go to policy

@priyoban even if u uncheck the qos it will still take the default value i.e. 20% of the bandwidth so its best if u check it and set it to 0

@DD only Xp pro has gpedit.msc if u have XP home then try this

ok...try this..im not sure if this will work..but!

Download this Zip file here and extract the two files to:

C:\windows\system32

From a command prompt (Start-Run-"cmd") type:

regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\System32\gpedit.dll

then

regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\System32\fde.dll

Close the Command prompt and open the Microsoft Management Console (mmc.exe) and select File->Add/Remove Snap-in... Then click Add. Select the "Group Policy" snap-in from the list of installed snap ins.

Not totally straight forward...but you will have to try because i dont have XP Home here.
