Hi,

I've decided to go with SSD Upgrade for my PC.
As the boot up / shutdown and application load time is sluggish / slower.

My config
Motherboard - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5KPLCM/
C2D E7300 , 2GB RAM, HD 4850, CM 600 watts , 1.5 TB + 640 GB.

Purpose - Web browsing , Movies , Photoshop , Music. It's also my download rig.
Over all I need a little faster rig without major upgrades or burning a hole in my pocket.

Budget - 8K .

Perference - Crucial M4 or any other. Reliable and hassel free warranty product.

Question
1) Post installation Whether will I see any real world improvements in my PC ?
2) Can i copy or mirror my Windows Partion to the SSD itself without OS reinstalltion?
3) Does the product package includes - Cables and Mounting brackets.
Googled about package contents none where metioned in maufactures sites (Crucial)
4) How is crucial india Warranty ?

Thanks
-Rico.

Get the M4.

1. Yes. System boots faster, shuts down faster, apps. launch faster, no noise from the drive.
2. Not sure. I would advise an OS resinstallation.
3. SATA cable comes with the motherboard and mounting bracket may or may not be supplied by the manufacturer.
4. If you are purchasing this from Prime ABGB/OnlySSD, they do the warranty/replacements themselves. Crucial does not have any operations in India. I had once confirmed it from them.

Your motherboard does not have a SATA 2.0 port but doesn't matter much.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, only 3 Gbps .
Hope there no much of issues or difference.

yeah, but I do not want to invest in DDR2. Was thinking to use Readyboost .

Check if your MoBo supports AHCI, it is important to get good performance out of SSDs. My old MoBo IP-35E did not have it officially(hacks are available for AHCI support, but are risky) so I decided to upgrade my CPU-MoBo before going for an SSD.

AHCI is not avilable in my Mobo. Also it's not much of help to SSD perform.

Also do like not to do hack even if one is available.
I would like to go for an SSD to prevent an upgrade. As I need this present set up to be liitle faster before I hit my full fledge upgrade.
As a matter of fact adding an SSD is my first step into my upgrade road map. ;)

@axis.meister Thanks . came to know soemthing new here.

My older system had a G31 based motherboard which did not have an AHCI supported chipset. Irrespective of this, the SSD worked just fine with noticeable improvements in day-to-day usage as Ive listed out before. It is only in the synthetic benchmarks that the scores would be lower when compared to the AHCI capable boards.

I couldn't install Win7 64bit on my old setup (C2D E4500+Abit IP-35E), when I searched around, I found out that was due to lack of AHCI support. Then I searched more, and found various feedbacks on the internet saying AHCI also would affect SSD performance.

That said, you have first hand experience of using SSD on MoBo without AHCI support, so I will not contest that. Maybe, as you say, adding SSD will give noticeable performance difference. And if this is the first step in a full fledged upgrade, then OP could go ahead with the SSD upgrade as it will be useful in the future when he upgrades his CPU+MoBo+RAM for a full upgrade.
