Hi everyone.

New here. Wanted some advice on which SSD I should buy.

My budget is 7k and I need at least 90Gb of space. I can get a it from either newegg or locally - budget is the same.

My O/S is Windows XP (so no trim support) and my motherboard supports SATA 2 (though I am told SATA 3 SSD's are backward compatible).

I notice large failure rates among OCZ drives on newegg so I would like to skip that brand completely. The most important requirement for me is RELIABILITY. Speed is not so important.

Please mention the exact model no. if you recommend a drive.

Look forward to your suggestions.

@marker Go for Crutial M4 128GB-8.5k OR OCZ Vertex 4 128GB-8.2k,Add 1k and get 128gb which will be better to add more apps than OS.OCZ Vertex 4 doesn't have any issues so get it eyes closed.

I recently looked into this and concluded that the kingston was the best for real world performance. I am afraid I dont know about local prices. The Vertex 4 is a good drive, OCZ's best so far but beware, its ability to both read and write at the same time is limited. It produces brilliant synthetic benchmark scores but looses to drives like the more expensive Corsair Performance Pro or my recommendation, the kingston.

Thanks for the info guys. :)

Dont intend to touch OCZ drives due to their extremely poor failure rate (5-15% apparently - way too high considering I am buying from abroad and wont be able to send it back for RMA).

Going in for a Crucial 128 GB. Since this is the first time I am buying an SSD, I wanted to know if its essential to buy a "desktop kit" or whether a standalone drive would do as well? I would assume the cables are standard USB connectors?

Also, there are several Crucial 128 GB drives on newegg that seems identical. Can someone please take a look and recommend one as I cant see any real differences in terms of performance just features like an upgrade kit etc. Link here -

Also Jay Mathers - that was such a nice offer considering I don't even know you. :)

Really appreciate it. Luckily I have someone coming down who will carry what I want. I do appreciate your offer though. Many thanks. :)
