Standalone DVD players to Powered Stereo Speakers or 2.1 - Suggestions?

I have been thinking about connecting my Audioengine 5 to me Samsung Bluray player. The player has a digital coaxial out only. There are some sellers on eBay do list DAC suitable for this application. I also came across Fiio Taishan D03K from proaudiohome
I have ordered one
If I like the sound, i may buy another set of stereo active spearkers for my TV and shift the A5 back to PC
I do not like 5.1 setup because of the wire mess it creates
what do you guys suggest
 
I find the boom/bass in movie soundtracks tends to overpower the speakers and fear it may damage the speakers - other than that it sounded good.
Do you guys suggest powered stereo speakers or 2.1s
