Galvanizer
I want to buy the hardware that lets me download torrents using wifi without having to switch on a PC or Laptop.

Can add the torrents once in 2-3 days so it has enough to eat while am not around :D

Can anyone help?

P.S. - Am not linux friendly

There are several devices but most of them work on linux only, PogoPlug, Seagate GoFlex Net and other NAS Devices.

I'm not sure any of them work natively on wifi server mode, @varkey Can you confirm this

He's not comfortable with even linux. I am not sure he'll be keen to setup a raspberry pi.

OP whats your budget?

just as @dinjo said, get pogoplug or goflex net. @montsa007 i think its simple to add/pause torrent using your mobile

You can buy a Raspberry Pi too.
get pogoplug or goflex net.

Well you guys missed the fine print, I think this Android based VIA PC will be much more up his alley, now just that it is available more easily via channels than the Raspberry Pi.

Only con [but same as Raspberry Pi] is unlike the Seagate GoFlex Net set-up he will have to invest in an external hard-drive to maintain his operations. Onboard memory is a piddly 2GB [~1.77 GB after formatting and all].

Not sure if this applies, get a router like ASUS RT-N13U, has a torrent downloader, if you want a good one look around for RT-N16, installing the ASUS customised Transmission is a breeze, no need to get your hands dirty with Linux

This ain't available till August so what options are available now?

As of now, available in the retail channels are the following devices / peripherals --
  • Raspberry Pi [in very short supply, there is a backlog to clear and they have Q's longer than the Aakash tablet]
  • Pogoplug [alive kicking and has been the favourite sidekick to many a TE download freak]
  • Seagate GoFlex Net & a hodge-podge of NAS devices [encroaching on the ever popular Pogoplu's turf]

Now all depends on OP's preferences and his budget.

Can shell 5-6k on this, already have a wifi connection at home so want the new hardware to accept wifi as the source of internet.
Already have a Win 7 laptop, some suggest using it to download stuff, but its stupid to use a Core i5 for downloading torrents, could've bought a second machine if space wasn't a constraint, the wardrobe is flooding with gadgets hence don't want another monster in it.

Also can someone post a link where this h/w can be bought in Mumbai?

Thanks everyone for your responses
