Hey all,

here a post by AlbertPacino's friend. I had a decent amount of problems last time, but now I am posting to help out my brother. He's even more of a newbe than me, so I think a lot of help might be needed.
He is currently experiencing a lot of troubles with his computer, as he cannot even start it up.
When he starts up, he gets to the blue windows screen. Before he can log in, he gets: Windows is starting.
The error he gets is a windows pop up. The blue heading reads LSASS.exe_system error, in the grey area it says: There are insufficient system resources available to execute API (translated from Dutch, so it might be somewhat different - you get the grip though). I thought it was the sasser virus, he said that he used the microsoft virus scanner though, which he used every day.
Can anyone help him???????

Is he patched to SP2? In that case sasser can be ruled out. I don't trust virus scanners much. if the system is unpatched, it could definitely be sasser.

check out this old thread for common windows startup problems that talks but the infamous blue screen.

It is normally caused due to the follwoing reasons
1- A fatal system error (STOP error) causes the computer to stop.
2- The Automatically Reboot option is enabled under Recovery on the Startup/Shutdown tab in System properties.
3- The Windows paging file is smaller than the amount of physical memory installed in the computer or there is insufficient free space on the system hard disk to write the error dump file (Memory.dmp). source

I suspect reason 3 to be the primary suspect. But lemme check out if the lsass has anything else to offer.Does the lsass appear in the blue screen along withthe rest of the text or like a dialog window(windows looking pop up screen)?

also trystart windows in in 'safe mode'(by pressing teh appropriate key while booting) .If the problem persists even in safe mode,it could also hint hardware problems like overhating ,paging&memory problems as listed above ,also check if the cpu fan working properly.
