Status of MTNL Broadband In Delhi

Hello there

I am thinking of getting MTNL Internet connection at my home, in Delhi.

Already have sify (which surprise for you all, works good because of my local dealer being good).

Just checked out their website:

256 Unlimited for 949 rupees.

are there any hidden charges ?

and is it including taxes (wasn't clear on their website)

what is total installation cost ? (info on mtnl site is pretty confusing, anybody who has paid can tell this)

what's your advice people ? is mtnl broadband good in terms of download speed (specifically torrents), customer service(i know it will differ among areas,but still in general), downtimes etc...

don't have airtel in my area....(also airtel is deteriorating a lot these days as forum post suggest)
 
Yup MTNL is pretty good. Instead of the 256kbps unlimited, go for the Rs. 749 plan. Speeds upto 2 Mbps in night (12 a.m. -8 a.m.) and monthly download limit of 1.25 GB.

The cost is excluding taxes. Ur tax is calculated on ur total bill (12.5% i guess) + 2% Education Cess.

i hate these night plan concept....i don't want to disturb regular sleep pattern by waiting for clock to be on 12, just to download movies....

anyways....

also heard from my friend yesterday that he gets upto 200 kb/s even on this 949 plan.....is it just temporary for him due to settings difference....?
 
Download speeds of 200kbps are impossible on a 256kbps connection. Your friend might have a nasty surprise in the next phone bill :P

But yeah, MTNL/BSNL are the way to go as far as broadband is concerned. Their support might is pretty horrible but once it is up and running it is not like you need any of that anyway.
 
i'm happy with my MTNL 749NU connec....i get 220KB/s speed on 2mbps connec...download ~5gb each nite ;-)
