Status of PS3 mod ?

Guys,

Finally taking the plunge into buying a console.. tired of upgrading my PC !!

Was reading up on PS3, confused as to the current status.

Question 1:

Which console? (budget : 20k.. should last 3 years)

Requirement: Should be moddable, incase I want to try some new games before buying!

Question 2:

Incase modding possible, will online play be available ?
 
"tired of upgrading my PC" - With both of these consoles still large in market, there was only little increase in PC requirements for games which are released on all platforms . I have been using 9600GT happily for three years and has not shown its age - until I played witcher 2 that is...

Anyway for your questions, X360 seems to be the better option of two...

Well there haven't been any announcement about nextgen Consoles .

But i think PS4 & Xbox720 or wat ever its gonna be named

So a decent PC would be advisable . If u really wanna get a Console then get a PS3 eyes closed.

PS3 would be a better choice simply for the reason that you sated that it should last longer say 3 years.

The 360 will surely be upgraded sooner rather than later as its nearing the end of its product cycle and the PS3 is still midway in the product cycle so still time for a refresh.

Both can be modded, though no online multiplayer on a modded PS3 for now.

+1 for the PS3 also on the games front, simply better and more exclusives(my point of view)
