Steam account doubt.....

I recently re-installed WinXP on my system on a different partition....So i lost my installation of HL2/CSS etc......The problem is I don't remember my Steam password....So my questions are:-
1)Is there any way to get it(the password) back.....
2)Do i need the password to re-install?
3)Are the files of the previous installation lying on my har disk of any use? I mean can I delete them before I re-install....?

3) the folders can be copied your new place where u are going to install steam(u dont need dame discs to install anymore) & just use the steam id & passwords...everything would be ready to play..
