Galvanizer
Here's the deal.
I purchased the CSS retail box on a whim more than an year ago but never really registered the key.
Today I felt like playing CS (after God knows how long) and figured might as well try CSS for the eyecandy.
Guess what. Steam says that the key in my shrinkwrapped never before opened retail box has already been activated on another Steam account!
What are my options?
And how is such a thing possible in the first place?!
I realise that the standard operating procedure might be sending Valve a photograph of my serial key with my Steam username below it. But even that won't help in this case because my account hasn't stolen, just my unused CSS key has been activated by someone else.
How can I prove to Valve that it's the key from a box that I purchased and not just a photograph of someone else's key?
