User Guides Steps to burn/write a CD optimally

1.Turn off your screensavers .

2.Turn off the "CD auto-play" function .

3.When copying a CD, first copy it to your hard drive .

4.Use DAO(disk at once)instead of track at once, burning for audio CDs .With Disc at Once burning, the laser doesn't shut off until the entire disc has been burned

5.Enable DMA on ur cd drive
To enable DMA on your CD-ROM drive:
Right click My Computer on your desktop, choose Properties. Click the Device Manager tab. Click the + next to CDROM. Double click on your CD-ROM drive (which should be shown next to CDROM). Click the Settings tab at the top. Check the box that says DMA. While you're at it, try to enable "Sync Data Transfer" as well.

6.Avoid cheap CDRs .Also ,if u ever spot blank cd-r's with the audio/music caption ,its bcoz they are meant for a standalone cd writer(whole sale types) not for pc cd writers.well thats what they say !

7.Finalize your audio CD .

If ur burning sensitive data, follow the rest of the steps.

8.Defragment your hard drive before the burn - the data flow wont slow down as the computer attempts to locate all the data and will not cause any buffer underruns. But i doubt if its practical.

9.Disable Power Management, which can interrupt the recording, should be disabled before starting a CD/DVD burn

Then ofcourse thers the 'make sure no scratches' and 'close other programs' ,dont <ctrl><alt><del>,for better quality assurance reduce cdr burning speed ,also dont attempt to record data onto a disc over a network as may cause errors...etc which u may follow.

CD Quick Cache
CD-Quick Cache is a great program for optimizing cache of your CD-ROM. Making changes to your cache is faster than ever because the program resides in your system tray.

Winboost 2000
Winboost 2000, by Magellass, also includes settings to optimize your CD-ROM drive. Select the "Optimize CD-ROM Speed" setting, set the Cache size to large, and then choose the appropriate speed for your drive. This should dramatically increase the speed of your CD-ROM drive.

Between a cdr/dvd combo and a dedicated cdr writer id go for the latter. And get a good writing software like Nero ,preferably the latest version .But now with dvd writers around cheap,it mught just change the way we see data recording .Cheers to technology !

Nice guide, bosky. One or two points:

1)Dedicated AudioCD recorder blanks will definitely work on PC CDRW drives. It's just that they have a flag-bit set to enable DRM.PC CDRW drives will ignore the flag.

2)Combo drives are fine now, they have the guts of a normal CDR drive in there anyway.
