Steps to buy HTC Rezound from USA

Hi,

I recently found a very good deal on HTC Rezound on Ebay,

As we know, HTC Rezound has a 720p screen, beats audio and an amazing camera. It also has secret global radios and can run GSM/HSDPA on it.

My questions are,

1) Should I unlock the phone, or can I register it directly with Reliance CDMA? AFAIK, GSM mode works without unlocking.

2) What is the exact procedure to get phones from ebay.com? I've only heard SNS, ICC world. Can someone explain what it is?

3) What is the exact amount, along with duties, I need to pay for this phone?

Read it carefully, screen has some scratches. Do you mind paying money ($300 = 15,000 + shipping + custom duty = around 18k easily) for phone having screen with scratches?

If you're going to take so much trouble to get it, might as well get one a pristine condition. A few scratchs on the body also wouldn't be too bad as those could be hidden with a body cover but scratchs on the screen aren't fixable, plus nowadays anyone who doesn't put a screen guard on his phone says a lot about how he takes care of his phone.

If you still wish to go ahead then you have 2 Options.

1. Goto http://www.iccworld.com/shopnow.asp and fill in the form. Within 24 hrs you shall get a mail with the quote. It shall contain Product Price + Shipping + Customs. It will also have a link for you to go ahead and make the purchase. After the payment is made, they shall buy the product on your behalf, clear the customs and deliver at your Shipping Address.

2. Register at http://www.shopandsh...om/default.aspx

You have to pay a one time charge of around $10 after applying TE Promo Code MC634926IND to get your own US/UK/CN Address with an Account Number.

Next you have to make the payment on eBay.com for the product that you wish to purchase but most importantly the Shipping Address should be the one provided by SNS along with your A/c number.

Then the seller will dispatch the product to Aramex Office in NY and from there it shall be forwarded to India. All the formalities shall be cleared and the products will be delivered at your India Address.

Shipping Charges are: $10 for 1st Lb and then $8 for each subsequent Lbs. Service Tax @ 12.36% extra.

Customs on Cellphones is 2.3% on Custom cleared value.

Both Customs and Shipping Charges shall be collected at the time of Final Delivery.

Also remember that while buying a used electronic item, you are undertaking a gamble. On top of that, you are buying it internationally so returns are mostly out of question. I'd recommend not to go forward with this thought.

I don't see much advantage in buying a new, unlocked device from the US. You'll end up paying more than the price in India. Things will be different if you have someone coming from there who is willing to get you a bargain price unlocked phone or one on contract that can be unlocked.

@Aproxymate: Do you know any other good phones within the 10-15k price bracket that can be bought off ebay.com?

I've found sammy focus, focus flash(omnia W), Pantech burst and moto Photon.
