Ever since his sickness and consequent declining health, i can confidently bet Jobs regretted forging Apple's image around himself or rather allowing Shareholders and Consumers to believe that Apple was run by a one-man army. I'm pretty sure Steve initially planned on sticking around as CEO a lot longer until he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Don't read too much into Apple's dip in share; it was inevitable with Steve's resignation. Share prices will correct itself over the next few weeks. Instead think longterm and understand that his resignation can and most probably will trigger a negative chain of events for Apple in the forseeable future. Is the dip in shares the first domino piece in the line? Every product has its fair share of flaws including Apple's. Rival competitors, industry analysts, gadget guru's, technology experts and consumers are now left with the impression that all of the flaws, even the tiniest of them, that will most certainly be present in Apple's products launched following todays events can be blamed on the fact that Jobs did not oversee development of the said products. Apple's board now has the tough job of reinventing Apple's image, one that doesn't revolve around the man himself, Steve Jobs and ensuring that the next ingenius product that Apple bears isn't a problem child. What we will next witness is the true power of suggestion as word spreads of Jobs' resignation and everyone begins to question Apple's future. Even as i type this comment, i realize that i am in a small way contributing to the suggestion that Apple will wither away without Steve. If you ever read an article titled along the lines "What killed Apple?" or if someone asks you something similar in the distant future, then remember it was Pancreatic Cancer.

Unfortunately Steve Jobs health is declining day by day :( Because I do not see why else would he leave his passion. "Steve Jobs was diagnosed in 2003, and the surgery was in 2004. He then had a liver transplant in 2009" This has been a long time coming. Maybe it is the right thing for him to do this as opposed to dying while he his CEO. Doing this will be an easy transition for Apple. But that is thinking too much ahead. Still man, just doesn't feel good to see this :(

There is always Apple and the rest following it. Boy, I cannot write anymore but just hope that everything goes well to this man and his family.

Steve Job’s extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its present position as the world’s most innovative and valuable technology company. What a man !

iSurprise

iHappy

iGrin

Lets see how the company fares now. Steve or no steve (jobs).. company has the technology and others as well..

Now to patent all the 3 i's i mentioned in the beginning of this thread. With apple u never know. :P

While I see some people sad, most of them are happy. Come on guys, show some compassion. I understand the hate, but it was Mr. Jobs that revolutionized the technology. So a little sympathy is in order.

Why exactly ?

It's the way Indian behave.. be it MF Hussain, or be it Steve Jobs.. till the time they are doing things sitting in their chair, nobody gives a hoot. Suddenly a news thread comes up that for some reason or the other, the chair is empty, then follows the cries of Oh No.. Shoot.. Damn!

The way i see it, meter of smugness in apple just went down.. and maybe the level of snottiness as well.

I understand the hate, but it was Mr. Jobs that revolutionized the technology. So a little sympathy is in order.

It was the other Steve who deserves the major chunk of credit.

Tim Cook has a lot of responsibilities now. Jobs was one of a kind. A true leader and a visionary. I respect that guy. One can say, Apple is where it is today solely because of Jobs and his innovations.

Can't disagree more on this:(

No portable mp3 players:(....ipod revolutionized the music industry, portable players.

iphone revolutionized touch screen phones

ipad revolutionized and created a new segment altogether and proved all critics wrong

And Jobs demonstrated how a perfectionist operates:)

on a lighter note: I am already thinking iPhone 4 and 5 would be the last great iPhones made available after which we will just get buggly samsung like high config-bad exp, phones

^^^ To lawyers and lawfirms! and girls and homosexuals (most of the apple users fall into that category as per some surveys which have now disappeared thanks to apple's legal team)

there were mp3 players, touch screen phones way before apple sold their trash.

On a related note, Narayana Murthy resigned from Infosys few days back and took over the position of Chairman Emeritus of the company. He is another guy whom I admire a lot, took Infy to great heights from humble beginnings and established them as one of the best IT Service providing firms in the country and globally, got Infy listed in Nasdaq (a feat?), and leads a simple life. I'm sure the Infoscions can tell better.

We may not see a thread on him here but he is one guy us Indians can be proud of. In the likes of E. Sreedharan and other legends. :)

You are comparing apples to oranges, Yes we are all proud of him but the reason people are so passionate about jobs is because we use products made by him (n rest of apple team) everyday. So its kind of personal. When was the last time you directly interacted with an Infosys product or service (assuming you are not an infy employee)
